I'm new here just got my 2012 Ram. It has the tow package but I want to install the factory brake controller in it. Is this possible and is it just buying the part and connecting it to my harness or is there more involved? I tried searching but no luck with the factory install. Thanks!

I installed a factory one on my 2012 Bighorn. Plug and play did not need to do anything else. Just make sure that the connectors are there for it first. You can have it flashed at the dealer if you want for it to show up on the EVIC but it is not necessary.

How does it have the tow package without the controller? I thought it was an integral part of the tow package.

I am not sure how that works either. But mine was also listed on the window sticker as tow package, but did not have the controller

Not sure I bought it used and it has the hitch and the 4 and 8 prong connections at the back. The last owner had a controller because my kick panel has two holes in it where people usually mount an after market one. But I like the integrated one. What are the perks of having it on the evic?

I actually am not sure what the perks would be. I never had mine flashed so I am not sure what you are even able to do with it on the evic

It's kinda handy to cycle through the evic and see the actual settings. Also, if you tow the same trailer(s) it can store settings so you only have to scroll to the individual trailer setup rather than readjust every time.

first you need to make sure you have both connectors under the dash in order for the factory controller to work. a lot of the express trucks only have 1 connector. that could be one reason the previous owner used an aftermarket controller.
