Factory Builtin Electric Brake Controller???

I'm going to be towing a fifth wheel at around 18k#, triple axle.

I know that my '12 RAM 3500 DRW has the controller on the lower left side of the dash, but not sure how to set it up.

I believe, at least from my aging memory, I can adjust it from the center dash information system. I know I can view it there anyway.

So how do you know what number to set it at?

Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

You'll want to set the brakes to Heavy Electric, you change this through the EVIC under: System Settings, then look for: Trailer Brake Type. There is also settings for Electric Over Hydraulic (EOH) if your trailer is so equiped.
Start at about 6-7 and see if the trailer feels like it pushes(increase the gain) or is pulling you(reduce the gain). When the brakes are adjusted correctly you shouldn't feel either.
I've read a lot of times that guys run too much gain to attempt to "save" the truck's brakes. That can lead to the trailer brakes overheating making them less effective or locking the wheels, when that happens the trailer is going to take you for a ride you won't like.

That sounds like what I was looking for. I agree that a neutral feeling, or no feeling at all, is what one would strive to have.

I'm not sure at this point, not having the RV home yet, what type of brakes I have on the RV. So I'll ask that question of the dealer next Friday when I get the walk around and bring it home.

Dont be surprised if the electric brakes are lack luster. I have had three different fifth wheels, and some of them worked OK with the IBC. My current fiver doesnt hardly even act as if the brakes are applied..even when maxed out(heavy elctric and set at 10). Ended up with a tekonsha P3 brake controller, instead of the factory unit.
