I am shopping for aftermaket head units for my 2012 ram. Most of them sell optional sirius tuners with an antenna. Is there an adapter or is an adapter required to use the factory sirius antenna with an aftermarket head unit? I searched and most of the info was 3rd gen

Might want to call crutchfeild but pretty sure you need an adaptor

i remember on the 06-08 rams with sirius you could take the yellow factory plug off the wire and then it left a plug that would plug into an aftermarket sirius tuner, but don't know if that works on the 4th gens also.

I work for a local stereo shop and I just installed a aftermarket radio with sat. If you remove the factory harness from the antenna end in the truck in will fit on to the end on the tuner box. I put some tape to hold it on and zip tied the after market tuner so the the antenna would not come unplugged. Everything worked seamlessly. It was even an XM tuner instead of Sirius ever since the merger the antennas are interchangeable between the two..

I was pretty excited it worked too. The customer really was happy because he didn't want the extra antenna scratching the black paint of his new truck.

So I have a kenwood deck from 2003. Sirius ready and all that. Think if I did the take off the factory plastic bit it would work? I can get it to work with the antenna they sent... But that would mean two of those things on my truck. What do y'all think? I even though about taking the factory antenna off and putting the one that I know works in its place... But don't want to screw things up too bad.

1: Removing the factory Sat Radio antenna required removal (or dropping) of the headliner, as it bolts to the roof, from the inside.
(I checked when I did the cab lights on my '13)

2: The factory Sat Radio connector will fit into an aftermarket box if you remove the plastic outer housing.

3: I did the above, and the connector broke after ~2 months - don't do this.

4: There is at least 1 connection point on/around the a pillar where you could get an SiriusXM antenna extension and have a regular plug to go on your aftermarket box. (I will do this at some point)

Happy Trails!

Or check this out! Neat!

well, i have tried everything. i guess my sirius tuner is just too old to work with the newer stock antenna or something. all i get is antenna error on my radio. it just drives me crazy that i can plug in the old antenna and it works perfectly. Im too cheap to buy a new deck, but that may be the only way to go.

or mount the second antenna, which i really dont want to do.
