I upgraded the 5” uConnect screen in my 2015 Ram 1500 Tradesmen with an 8.4” (running software version 18.45.01) from a 2017 Jeep Cherokee this morning.

The install went smoothly and I installed a trailer brake controller while I was in there. I understand the truck will have to be flashed to recognize the brake control module before it’s operational.

The problem is everything functions on the new radio except for XM and navigation. I can control the climate and AM/FM stations through the new screen. My compass is also operational.

The error message I’m getting while on XM is “Check antenna. See dealer for service”. Navigation did show me in New Jersey, where I suspect the donor vehicle was from. After a hard reset it now shows me in San Antonio which I understand was a common issue resolved by a firmware update.

I’ve spoken with Sirius and had the new radio added to my account. They also sent a refresh signal to the radio. I’ve also performed several hard and soft resets on the radio, and went into the engineering menu and reset it to factory. I spent the last four hours searching online and also have a call in to the dealer.

The obvious answer is that the antenna is unplugged from the back of the radio, but when all this started several hours ago, I double checked that.

I understood this upgrade to be plug and play, but I’ve also seen some information on Alpha OBD/dealer reprogramming for the new radio.

Anyone experience this before or have any ideas?

Why the duplicate post? You should only have one so all responses stay in the same thread instead of being spread over multiple ones and scattered about. Makes it much easier for someone to help you, knowing what has already been posted in the responses.

Thanks but I only posted once.

I did reply to a different post asking a question relevant to that thread if that’s what you mean.

Update** After three hours at the dealership and $300, the tech found a bent pin on the antenna connection. Were it not for that, I’m pretty sure my upgrade would’ve been plug and play.

The $300 is what I was quoted just to flash the new trailer brake controller, I added while replacing the radio, to the truck. Guess I got 2 1/2 hours of diagnosis/labor for free.

AlfaOBD and obd plug would’ve been way cheaper and you could use it forever on other things like this. Glad you got it fixed though

Yeah, I considered Alpha OBD but didn’t feel like messing with it. And who knows if I’d have ever found that bent pin.
