So I started out with the 5.0 radio and upgraded to a 8.4 non nav with the harness to fully integrate it to stock functions. But now I have a few issues. First my usb port in the center dash doesn't import music to the radio put it doest have power to charge a phone. The radio doesn't even show the import to select a usb source only bluetooth. It doesn't have a sd card slot only usb. Secondly my compass is stuck on North and won't change not sure when it started not working. Any Input would be great.

Also is there a difference between the usb hub vs the usb/sd card hub. Maybe someone that has done this upgrade can give me some info. I also tried unhooking the battery to reset then compass with no luck.

Have you performed S factory reset on the radio yet? Was the radio from a Ram truck? If so what year is it from and what year is your truck?

It was from a ram truck as well. Not sure if it was a 2014 or 2015. I haven't tried the radio reset yet I might have to give that a shot.

Yes. If that doesn't work I would next attempt a firmware flash if you have the donor VIN. It may be a little more involved to flash the firmware if your USB hub isn't working properly, but it can be done.

So I don't have the original vin number for the radio. But I have determined that the radio must be screwed up because I hooked up the stock 5.0 radio and the usb and compass are working find. Now I'm not sure what to do. Do you think the factory warranty would cover the radio since it's still a mopar part?

Not necessarily. Do you have the part number for your 8.4?

You may want to try doing a soft reset first. Push the volume and browse buttons together for around 5 seconds. This will reboot the radio. If you end up trying to update your firmware you will need to at least know what year truck your radio came out if if you don't have the Vin# handy. If you know the year you can find another truck that year equipped with the same radio you have and just use that Vin# to get the firmware from the Chrysler website. I just go to eBay and find a truck for sale the same year with the same radio and just get the VIN number that way. Remember that radio has to be out of a Ram or a Jeep Cherokee or it's not going to work right in your truck. Also if your radio has a return period You might want to think about sending it back and trying to find a different one. It sounds like a definitely may have some issues. If all else fails and you are unable to send the radio back you can also do a factory reset by pushing the temp up and temp down buttons plus the defrost key for around 5 seconds. This will put you in tne engineering mode. You can do a full reset from there. I dont recomend doing that unless there is no other option.

I know it's from a ram just because when I called to set up my Xm radio it's either a 2014 or 2015. I have done both the soft reset and factory reset. I also get the e911 message as well after 15min of the truck being on I do have the resistor hooked up but I think that is part of the issues that goes with the compass and usb port not working. Also I can't return it I bought it off a guy with the harness. Never noticed a problem till it was a while after I bought it from him. Do you think the dealer would replace it if I'm still under warranty? Also I'm not sure if I can do the update if the usb port isn't working right. Besides the issues I've listed the radio works fine. Just aggravating when you know there is a issue and can't fix it.

Are you sure you plugged in the (grey) USB port to the back of the radio?

Ya that why I originally pulled the radio out to check that. The usb port lights up and you can charge from it but no input to the radio with the 8.3 with the 5.o it loads right up. The storage part is it only list the blue tooth when you click on devices icon.

OK. I would factory reset first and see if that helps. Sorry if you've already done this, I didn't remember. If that doesn't work get me your part number off the back of the radio and we'll see if mpgrimm's (a forum member/vendor) thread on 8.4 firmware has the info you need to get an appropriate firmware to flash.

FYI, I had the same thing happen when I first did this upgrade years ago using an 8.4 RA3 radio. It turned out to be a driver issue but re-flashing the firmware fixed it for me. I had to purchase this adapter to bypass the USB hub in the console and plug the firmware update directly into the back of the radio.

Okay now that you mention that none of the options show up in your media ports I have heard of this before. In some cases when you install these radios for whatever reason the new radio will not pick up on your media port options. In the past we used to send the radio to infotainment and they would actually program the media ports back in on the 13 and 14 radios but it did not happen to them very often. It seems to happen more on the 15 and newer radios. That being said even though there's no way to know for sure I would say there's probably a chance your radio is a 2015. Of course don't use that for the basis of deciding which firmware to run you would still need to do more research to figure out exactly what year your radio is out of. You may be able to contact OBD Genie and they can send you an OBD Genie to activate the media port codes in your BCM. This is what I did when I installed my 2016 radio in my 2014 truck all my media ports worked but it no longer showed my SD card option as I had upgraded my media hub to also include the SD card. I got the Genie programed the code back into my truck and now it all functions normally. It was $199 which is ridiculous but it worked. They no longer show that particular Genie on their website anymore but if you called them I'm sure they could program one for you to add whatever media ports you wanted. Your radio will not play music from the USB if the media port soft key is not showing on the screen. It is strange because it probably worked fine in the other truck it was in but for some reason once in a while depending on the vehicle it won't work the same because it's 2015 and newer radios read the options from your BCM. Your radio should have Bluetooth,AUX,USB and SD card in your media options list. The fact that it only shows Bluetooth tells me that the radio is not picking up on the options because they're not programmed into your BCM. One good thing is if you end up purchasing a genie your SD card option will also appear if you want and you can buy a Media Hub with the SD card slot and have the option to use that as well. I actually play all my music from an SD card now. It's compact and convenient and I can store hundreds and hundreds of songs on the SD card. It works great. You may also be able to try updating your firmware by purchasing the USB connector from Amazon as mentioned. I have not tried it that way and I'm not sure if the new firmware would bring your options up on your screen. In either case at least there are options you can try. if you purchase the genie you just plug it into your OBD2 port and automatically downloads in your truck and then you remove it. The genie automatically connects to your VIN number and can only be used for your truck. If for any reason you take your truck to the dealer or something happens that your BCM gets reflashed and loses the code you just plug the genie back in and it will put the code back in your truck. The genie is expensive and not sure if you want to spend $200 to get your USB port back but at least there are a few options you can try and the genie is a pretty much guaranteed fix.
