Just picked up a Porter Cable 7424 and wanted to get set up with some of the Adam's Products. I have been a long time user of Meguiars but figured after all the good things I have heard about Adam's I would give it a try.

I was looking at this package:
Adam's Porter Cable Car Polisher Accessory Kit

My PC came with 3 pads already (don;t know the difference in them), so I wasn't sure if I really needed the different color pads and if they made a difference from the ones I already have. I know I would need everything else in the kit though, the truck is 8 years old and never been clayed. Also, about how many uses can I get out of the amount of wax that comes in the kit? And the final question, is there a good method to washing/drying the pads? I picked up my PC used and the previous owner said he only used it a couple of times but I wanted to make sure my pads were clean if I am going to be using them.

Thanks

I'm sure Eric will post up soon. But just to give you a little info. I had a chance to use the PC on my truck last weekend. Very awesome, and the Adams products work great!

As it was explained to me (which makes sense), is that the different color pads, correspond to the actual product that you will use. And, the 3 different pads...relate them to different grits of sand paper. With that said, you won't need to use all three pads/products for the entire vehicle.

I would HIGHLY suggest doing the clay bar! As for the wax, it really depends on where you live, with the environment. Typically, you should wax AT LEAST every 3-4 months. With proper maintenance, washing and using the detail spray, you can easily get a year + out of the bottle.

As far as cleaning the pads...you can use the Adams All Purpose Cleaner. Spray a moderate amount onto the pad, and then use warm water to rinse. Let air dry.

I know that didn't answer everything...but that should get you started till Eric posts.

Thanks a lot for your input Dan. I've had the truck for a little over a year now and can't believe I haven't clayed it yet. Going back to what you said though about not having to use all the pads.... if I wanted to do the complete process with all the waxes wouldn't I need to use all the pads then? Maybe you just meant if I didn't need to do one of the steps in the process?

Well first, understand these are NOT waxes, they are polishes. It sounds like since it's been a good while since your truck has had a good detail, to start, you will need to do the full process, use all the pads, and products. Once you get the truck detailed...in the future you should not need to do the full process on the entire truck, perhaps just some panels.

Hope that makes more sense.

Makes complete sense, with my ignorance I have just always referred to all of these products as waxes. Isn't there a final "stage" wax(?) that protects everything in a way? I should know all of this by now, I worked in a classic car restoration shop for years but never got into the detailing aspect but now I wish I would have paid a little more attention to the guys doing that work.

Ok great, and I guess that is a safe bet to assume its the Machine Super Wax.

Looks like you took care of me Dan, guess all I will need is a price quote shipped to me from Eric whenever he gets on. Thanks for all the help!

Thanks Dan for clarifying! It was great having your truck at our booth. That thing is insane!

Mike, you will love the Porter Cable! Your pads may still be good, but I'm not sure what cutting properties they have. Adam color-codes his products and pads, as Dan stated. That way you know what each pad is designed for and what polish/sealant to use with it. Looks like you have a black truck and some big tires to throw lots of mud up! I know that that's like! That said, I recommend the accessory kit and you'll save yourself a lot of time using the Severe Swirl Remover.
Watch this video first!:

Use the APC, like Dan said to clean the pads. Make sure to clean them after every use and air-dry. I sit mine upside down on two Grit Guards. Works well!
Good video for cleaning pads:

Email me if you want to place an order, I'll hook ya up!
