Fellas,

I bought the Complete Power Stop Z36 package for my truck about a year and a half ago. Maybe 18,000 miles since then. I was cleaning up the driver side caliper, and bracket from the brake dust. I pulled out the slide pins and cleaned them thoroughly as well as the rubber boots and bore. I use Silglyde on those.

What type of lubrication are you guys using in the caliper bracket groove? Where the tabs on the pads slide back and forth in the groove?

The reason I ask is, I’ve tried different things over the years . I first started with the Perma green grease. That seemed to disappear within a year. I think the last time I did it on another vehicle I may have used a little anti-seize in that groove.

I spoke with my friend again who does a lot of his own auto repair. I think he said to try the Permatex extreme heat brake grease. I believe it has a purple type label. And it may have a ceramic component in the grease

What has your experience been with different lubricants in this area? And what has worked for you? And how long do they last before getting gummed up with road dirt/grime?

Thanks for any helpful information!

The Permatex extreme heat brake grease is my go to brake grease. I run the Z36 on all 4 corners on my 1500

The "how long does it last" is very suggestive as conditions effect it's life span. Lots of dust, lots of salt will shorten it's lifespan.
I usually pull mine apart and grease for anything over 3 years. But my vehicles are garage kept and never see salt.

This entire project has been very involved. I bought these power stop Z 36 package about a year and a half ago. I might’ve had 15,000 miles on the truck and a lot of that was highway.

I cleaned up these rotors and got rid of all the rust on all surfaces. I even used a small wire brush on a drill to clean in between the vanes along the outside edge. Then blew everything with a compressor.

I use the self etching primer. Couple of coats. Then they use the red VHT caliper paint. To sort of go with the power stop calipers. I will remove the blue tape tomorrow on the flat part of the rotors.

Going forward are there any companies out there that make really good rotors that are coated and will not rust?

I did such an overhaul on these. Looks like tomorrow I’ll be able to assemble the struts and get the rotors back on.

Then the new wheels and tires.IMG_6277.jpegIMG_6278.jpegIMG_6279.jpegIMG_6280.jpeg
