Was looking at these tires as a replacement for the Nexen's....

I don't have a warm and fuzzy about the Nexen's for winter driving. Was looking at the Grabber ATX's and they have a good tread design and a 50k mileage warranty.

I don't know how new the Firestone XT's are as I haven't seen them before, but they look pretty good. Same 50k mileage warranty on them. Both are pretty close in price.

Both have the 3PMSF symbols.

Firestone XT:

Grabber's claim to be more puncture resistant.....bah.

Nitto Terra Grappler G2's are an option, and are a little cheaper...

The Firestone XT are very new. They were released when they updated the destination AT to the AT2 which is also severe weather rated too.

I'm thinking when my Falken wildpeak at3w wear out, I'm going to try the Firestone XT. I used to sell tires, we were primarily a Michelin BFG shop but we carried Bridgestone Firestone also. I had great success with both BS & FS, I really liked the old destination AT, it worked really well in all conditions and got decent wear too, so that XT should be a great time also. The Firestone truck tires are very puncture resistant.

These are the studded Hakkapeliitta LT2 I ran on the ‘16 in the winter.

Don’t skimp on winter tires... unless you only get 5 days of winter...

Funny story and not sure that it helps, but I had a set of Firestone AT's (not sure which one and this was 20+ years ago) when I lived in Kodiak, Alaska and by the time I dumped them, every tire had at least 3 plugs in it and one tire had 26 plugs in it. It was a joke when I'd roll into work. Everyone would come out and cup their hands to their ears like they were listening for the hiss of air leaking out of one of my tires. Back then there wasn't a lot of pavement and the roads would get terribly washboarded so a grader would smooth everything out. Just when they graded, they seemed to pull up every sharp rock and piece of metal in the road. I switched to a Cooper tire (again not sure which one) but until they wore out, never another plug.

I like the look of the XT's but the ATX's have been around a bit longer from what I can tell. Not too many reviews that I can find on the XT's

I wouldn’t recommend either. The Firestone’s have been known to where quickly on heavy duty trucks. (From experience). Same for the General tires as well. The heavier the tire weight and PLY the more wear you will get out of them regardless of warranty. I would recommend getting Nitto or Toyo. I’m going to be getting Toyo AT III or the Toyo RTs.

Had Grabber’s on my Durango's both of them, loved them, they were exceptionally sticky in the snow and ice, but they were a lot cheaper then, seems like General caught on and raised the prices. I’m running Hankooks on my 14 Limited which are great all around and surprisingly good in the snow. I’m turning Milestar Patagonia MT’s on my Power Wagon so only time will tell with them this Winter.

I can only imagine what those run....Nokians make some of the best snows. Hakkapeliitta and Blizzaks are pretty awesome. An extra set of rims and snows arent in the cards. AT's will work fine for up here though.

Steel rims without sensors run around $70 each. In 2016 those Hakka LT2 cost $320 each. Tire prices in Canada... $$$

These Hakka LT3 I run now cost $300 as well.

For me, winter tires seem to last 3 seasons. At the end of the 3rd season they’re usually worn down 50%. And while you can’t give away worn Firestone AT/HT or Nexen, 50% worn Hakka’s without rims will always sell.

I just got a set of milestar Patagonia AT-R. They seem like decent tires. I can hear just a tiny bit of road noise from them but it's very slight and they have good traction in the rain so far I don't know about any snow cuz I live in the south and the winters are all rainbows and unicorns down here so no problem there. They are a 50,000 mi Tire. And they have these little rubber ledges like in between the tread is supposed to help keep out stones and such to reduce punctures

False info there, considering the firestones in question are a brand new tire that I'll bet not more than 2 or 3 members on here have on thier truck. The Firestone that has a bad rep for wear is the transforce that comes OEM. It's a ****** OEM tire like most other OEM tires. Most people have great luck with general grabber aftermarket tires.

Now thinking about Falken AT3W's....after researching some reviews of the Grabbers after some have towed with them....seems they don't last too long when towing.

I'm going with the XT's. I went to my local tire shop I trust and had them price 6 Grabbers and 6 XT's. They hooked me up with an awesome price for each, I figured I'd take a chance on the XT's. Found some reviews online that were really praising how well the XT's are wearing on their HD trucks especially towing heavy loaded trailers.

Yup, these Nexen's need to GOOOOOO!!!! They're absolutely terrible in snow. Had to put it 4WD to get out of a relatively flat parking lot. Surprisingly we got about 5-6 inches of heavy wet snow tonight. In a short order.

I had tried Hercules Terra trac’s A/T’s on my Power Wagon I will never buy them again they absolutely sucked in wet weather and the snow made them like a set of “Baldini’s”

Got the XT's on today. No road noise that I can tell. I like the tread pattern on them, I am hoping they will perform well in the snow. Anything is better than the Nexen's.

Just some pics of the new tires. They are pretty meaty looking.d6fb803cf73a5d6d533452a1c69df1b1.jpg431c8d5621ff7237fb55a6dbc7f2ee4e.jpg2546c405170bdf2b552584eb3b2e01d2.jpg4340c0d2f00d23ab72390ef7b85fdf65.jpg
