I just picked up my new 16 Ram Mega Cab 4x4 6.6 yesterday and I have a couple of questions...

1. What are your top 3 pieces of advice to DIY maintenance on a diesel?

2. What side step bars did you install yourself? (Where did you buy online?)

3. What bed cover did you choose?

4. Anything else I need to know as of day 2 of my sweet ride?

This sucker is huge... won't fit in my garage! Thanks everyone!

1. diesel maintenance really isnt any more difficult then gas maintenance, despite what some people say. just dont run out of DEF fluid and change the fuel filter regularly.

2. Go rhino, easy install

3. Extang solid fold

4. nope enjoy it

Congrats man, post some pics when you get a chance!

I'd go with AMP Power steps for your running boards

Go hop on the Cumminsforum along with RF, there is alot of smart guys over there.

And the number 1 think IMO is Fuel filtration, even if you don't need it for horsepower reasons the addition of a aux lift pump with water separator and lower micron filter is the best thing for that cummins.

Even if you don't run a better lift pump you can add a inline filter, GDP (glacier diesel products) sells some kits. I believe the Stock filter is a 10micron while somethign like the FASS is down to a 2 micron.

Other than that its all the same pretty much, good oil, I like to let them warm up a bit before operating them, let the turbo cool from driving before shutting off, The addition of a EGT gauge or otherwise known as a pyrometer is always recommended too

Thanks Jerry1984! I was so close to pulling the trigger on the Duramax.... and then drove the Ram and loved it!

Yep... newbie mistake (plus a gin & tonic!)

Factory steps are good- they actually 3 mounts so they are pretty stout.
I have the undercover tri fold, works great. Gotta love those mega cabs

All good Tony just don't want you telling anyone that knows in person that you have a 6.6 Cummins or they will call your accidental ********. Congrats on the new truck. I thought I wanted a diesel but couldn't quite justify the extra cost while only towing the camper less than 10 times a year.

Congrats and welcome aboard. :) I do love the oil burners.

I had to make the wife park outside so I could park my truck inside. Well, she gets the small area now but now that means I have to reverse park her vehicle in for her every day when she comes home from work. Small world issues. lol

I just ordered your truck's little brother (1500 Ecodiesel). 8-10 weeks can't go by fast enough. :D
