Hi guys! New to the forum. I've never had a truck before, I'm a fast small car guy (BMWs, Audis etc). But my wife and I are looking at land, and having an S4 doesn't really make sense for that.

So, I got myself a Ram Hemi. I had a few requirements: good power, 4x4, decent interior, used/older to save money. I have a Tahoe now and I absolutely hate Chevy interiors. I don't love Japanese trucks. So that really left Ram and Ford. I think the Ram is infinitely better looking, and seems to be a better value in the secondary market. So here we are.

I was wondering if you guys could give me feedback on two things:

1) Should I be worried about the miles?
2) Given all that is included in this particular truck, do y'all think I got a good deal? Would love some feedback since it's my first one.

Here's the truck (Big Horn, 5.7 Hemi, 4x4, 159k miles for $14,400):

if you put 5k to it and take a lower trim level you get a newer truck with way way less miles on it.
nobody can tell you, if the truck is good or not. just what to look for. and if you're not a mechanic, there is no way.
If you come from Audi, you will be surprised, how good the quality is.
That's all I can say about it. How much money you want (can) spend is up to you.
But shop around- to find a good truck, what fits, takes time.

Is it me or or is that price just a little high for 154k miles. I would be asking for $10k for that truck.

Yes I already bought it. And no there's nothing at this trim level close to this price with the 5.7. There's a regular cab, or a 4.7, but not a Hemi.

Good looking truck. I made the same move two years ago. Traded my '05 S4 for a Ram when the timing chain started to rattle. I really loved that car but it was a lot of work.

I have no idea what you guys are talking about. I looked up the private party value on KBB and it says trade in value for very good condition is $15,300. Sounds like a good deal to me. Especially coming from a dealer.

It's not a bad deal. That's about what they are going for in my area also.

Can you try to be more rude?? If you did research on pricing you'd have seen that the retail pricing for that year and mileage is pretty much in line.

To OP: Enjoy your Ram and welcome to the forum.

that's what I think- not a bad deal but depending how long you want to keep it- 15K for already 150k miles is a lot of doe for a old car, where others already think about what they have to start fixing. (don't want to offend anybody- but that's how I see it.)
Is the truck worth it- don't know the technical condition.
is there a lot out there for this price range? no.
from this point of view a good deal.

Have fun with the truck. And welcome aboard. Just make sure to do regular maintenance on it. And check to see that the regular maintenance has been kept up and done on it.

My kbb lookup for your area has a range of $12-16k...so they are on the higher end of that scale.

Personlly, I would offer $12k. And shop around to see of someone else is advertising something lower.

P.s. just clicked on your link and the price is $14,493.

As an owner of a " high mileage " Ram I had my truck assessed and was offered $16,000 for it. Now just because I was offered that doesn't mean that goes for every State. I think it's a good deal for that truck, and I wish you the best. :)

Wait wait wait. You are telling me that if I did my research. Seriously apparently you didnt because you are asking if you got a good deal or not AFTER you bought it. Dosen't matter if you did or didnt at this point you signed for it so its yours now.

The beauty of going from a CPO Audi that I couldn't do anything to for fear of voiding the warranty to something like this is that I no longer have that concern.

First thing I'll do is probably add running boards. I looked at a number of 4.7s and there just didn't seem to be the same aftermarket support as there was for the Hemi, so I'm sure I'll do some power mods as well.

I'm just getting into the Dodge/Ram truck world, so it may take some researching to find the best mods. But that's part of the fun, right?

Have fun with the truck. And welcome aboard. Just make sure to do regular maintenance on it. And check to see that the regular maintenance has been kept up and done on it.

For me, I work from home so I don't put a lot of miles on cars (I put 3000 on my Audi in the last 12 months). That's another reason I felt comfortable getting a higher mileage car. Maintenance is key - and I've seen a ton of these with gobs of miles on them, which gives me some comfort.

Wait wait wait. You are telling me that if I did my research. Seriously apparently you didnt because you are asking if you got a good deal or not AFTER you bought it. Dosen't matter if you did or didnt at this point you signed for it so its yours now.

I didn't tell you to do your research, someone else did. But if you had, you probably wouldn't have made your original observation. I've looked at hundreds of Rams, and if you're comparing apples to apples, you're not going to find this truck for $14,400 easily from a dealer. I was willing to pay a little extra to have the shifter in the center instead of the column, combine that with the larger wheel combo, the dual exhaust, and the color all being exactly what I wanted - it's nearly a unicorn situation. Used car buyers often have to settle, the only place I'm "settling" is mileage. This is the exact truck I would build if buying new. But this same truck with, say, 80k miles on it is going for $18-19,000+ with a clear title.

You just see 150k miles and think I should be able to steal it for 10k. But that's just not reality on a well equipped auto at a higher trim/options level.

If you left the dealership feeling good about the deal. Then that's all that matters. Doing the research after the fact and asking on here is pointless. And you might find info you don't want to here. The first thing I do when buying a older truck is go through it and do all the maintenance stuff. That way I know it's done, what quality of parts are in it. And at what milage they were done. Good looking truck congrats!
