8.4 upgrade help needed.

I've spent countless hours searching for answers with no luck. I purchased an 8.4 unit on ebay in an attempt to upgrade my 2014 8.4 to include car play. Since then I've discovered a lot more information on the topic and realize that I may have just wasted my money on this purchase. I'm hoping that it may be possible to do a software update to correct my issues but I know that may not be the case. The part number on the newer unit is 68428539AC. I changed the hub and wiring harness and carplay works as it should. The problems that I'm having are no climate control on the screen, manual controls work correctly. No cargo cam shows up, back up camera is on rearview mirror, it works correctly. No steering wheel controls. The settings menu is very sparse. No themes to change the color scheme, and no place to change the temp to farenheight. The dealer menu is very odd also, nothing looks like photos of others that I've seen on here. I'm not even sure what the current sofware version is on this thing.

You probably need to turn around and sell it, then get the compatible part. Ask further here if you have questions.

I'm a retired electrical engineer and got my start in the field as Windows and the Macintosh were getting going. Nothing is easy in making hardware and software work together. In my experience, it all starts from scratch. There is no DIY modification or tweaking that is going to work beyond making some lights flash or getting a fan to turn. I agree, 86 the bargain and buy something guaranteed plug and play.

Once upon a time there were garage tinkerers, whose major accomplishments were minor and scarce. Obsessed and lucky to get a real job with a real company making consumer products of some nominal value.

The first company I worked for was mostly software guys. We had a few hardware engineers, and I cannot recall a single contribution they made to the company's revenue.

Do you know the VIN # it came out of? if so - check the 11th digit, if it's a "N' the radio is out of a 5th Gen Ram and yeah, youl'd be better off getting the correct one

Based on the serial# in the screenshot, I bet that's an APTIV/Delphi/5th Gen radio which is going to have issues and not work fully in a 4th Gen.
Your truck will also need Auto Climate added if it doesn't already have it as well as a 4th Gen compatible Panasonic 4c UAq or UAs radio from a 2018/19-21 4th Gen classic truck.

I don't have the vin that it came from but it is an APTIV model VP2 8.4 DT SXM.

Feel free to post what you're looking at here and I'd be happy to confirm if its a good pick. Don't be afraid of rough looking radios on Car-Part.com, that's how you get a good price.

Welcome to my world. I just bought a 2020 Laramie orp with ucon 4 8.4 and could barely find info on how to even find the system info! Here's where I'm at with no hope of figuring out what if any updates exist.
The only problem I'm trying to resolve isn't a necessity, just a peve, but the screen touch beep sounds has sponsorships decided to become almost inaudible and I can't figure out if there's a setting to another it's volume or not. Yes, I know, you can turn it on or off, but that's not my concern.
I've also seen where software version 11.46.1 doesn't exist.

I don't believe it is the latest, only saying nobody has the updates hosted outside of Uconnect
