Yes. And normally I would say it was just FCA being FCA but it does look like there is evidence that something in the xfer case actually changed as well, so I would go with what the catalog says for the Mopar fluid part number.

Now, aftermarket fluids...Im not sure. Its interesting that the fluid for 2016+ 44-44 is also for the 44-40 which is a fairly old xfer case. Maybe they realized failures from the pre-2016 44-44 were due to crappy clutch packs and went back to whatever was in the previous torque-on-demand case.

Exactly! That’s why I bought the correct one from the dealer. The fluid was much to specific to risk using a random aftermarket version.

Also for reference the AA or AC at the end is what they do when they release a revision for what ever fluid or part it might be as the pn will be AA to start then the 3rd revision to the pn will be AC, 4th revision AD so on and so on. This can be useful for anything your looking for as you might not always be able to find the AA part available.
