Hello. I am trying to learn how my FOB works overall so I know if something goes wrong. 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT 5.7L V8 Hemi. My FOB remotely opens and locks the doors and a panic button. It does not remote start. So what happens if the battery in the FOB happens to die and I don't have access to a new battery at the moment. I am assuming I cannot turn the truck on. I know I can use the given key to at least unlock/lock the doors. But as far as I know the key will not turn the engine on? Am I correct? Am I really at the mercy of a FOB and it's battery?

Hello!
Your owner's manual will cover all aspects of the Key FOB and ignition for you. If your truck doesn't have one, you can download them for free online ;).

True, and it will show you how to start the truck with a dead fob. Don't want to ruin the surprise, nothing worse than knowing the ending on a book you just started reading. :waytogo:

first of all, which type of FOB do you have ?
Does it stay in your pocket, or do you insert it into the ignition ?

The watch battery in the fobs, easily last a year or two

There is more of a chance that gunk & grime gets into the FOB cases & it needs a bit of cleaning of the contacts.
There are so many youtube videos on the subject, you can see every way to make them function
