I was thinking that the 6.1 into a 5.7 was just a plug and play since they are both OEM cams, am I incorrect in this thinking?

You will still need to change springs and rods, change to non MDS lifters also if you want to get rid of that while you are there.

I wouldn't bother with a 6.1 cam in a truck. A 260 or something similar will work much better (or higher if you have a reg cab).

A 6.1 advanced some is not a bad cam for starting. Odds are it will be changed out after a year or so but its a good starter cam.

I think a 6.1 cam advanced 4* with long tubes and spray, verter and gears would make a hell of a sleeper truck seeing the 6.1 cam doesn't really have a noticable lope.

If the 6.1 was on a tighter LSA it would have noticable lope, but with it being a wide LSA cam it has just a slight hint and you have to have an ear for it.

if your gonna do a 6.1 cam swap you would be much happier just going with a whole 6.1 top end swap and get a tune with it. basically consists of cam, heads, intake, injectors, throttle body and a tune... there is a company that is doing a kit version of this, I believe its Arlington performance but dont quote me. They have the diablosport loaded with the proper tune and everythign for this swap and Ive heard they are getting not much less than a supercharger as far as numbers out of this swap, but of course its better for longevity than a SC, worth looking into

He will have port mismatching on that swap your talking about, better to spend money on just BV heads for a 5.7. The 6.1 intake will drop TRQ but pick up HP on topend where the trucks dont require that unless its a full blown race rig. The 5.7 injectors will flow enough for a cam head swap unless your looking to add more to the system down the road. Im running 6.1 injectors just for added support down the road. The question all boils down to how much money is on the table and if your doing the install, if your not doing the install play on alot of money going into labor.
