Makes the inside of bed a lot smaller you,ll see when you want to haul some stuff. I have a locking job box that can be taken in and out of truck cost 375 new weather proof too. But its all what fits your life style. Looks clean hope it works out for you. Also don't forget your gonna sell your bed and theirs most of the money back.

Definitely more room for hauling manure in a standard bed

Is it safe like that?
Actually looking at the rambox im not sure there is enough bedrail overhang to get clamps onto.

For a normal bed it shouldn't be an issue. You would clamp it at more points than the factory mounts it to the frame :). Depending on transport distance I would stop every now and then to check the clamps.

Not a bad idea but how do we keep it from sliding off?

Use the hooks inside the beds of your current and the new rambox (or the hooks on the rails). You'd have to crawl in after setting the rambox bed on your truck. If you strap front of your bed to back of rambox bed and sinch it up tight to your glass (put a blanket in between) and a few others crossed side to side it may work...

or how about putting a couple planks across your old bed clamped down, and then use tie downs on the new bed. Heck, you could even bolt the new one down to the planks! think smarter, not harder :)

Great ideas! I like the 2x4 thing. We will see, still not sure on buying it.

X2 on renting a trailer like McBroom said if one can't be borrowed with good tires. Take some 4x4 material with you too along with the straps because figure it would have to go across the trailer side rails or be loaded at an angle fore and aft. That could scratch up the paint though, so I would suspend above the rails. Just my 2 cents. I too think that is a real good price though.

Might not find another one if you pass on this one.
As mentioned, lots of ways to transport.
Which version, does it have the remote locks?
Love the Ram Boxes!

I just hauled a pallet of shingles inside my RamBox bed! It was tight but we got it done without damage. There is a solid 48" yet to fit stuff in for width and you only lose the mostly useless space above the wheel wells.

I have a number of Rambox-related posts on the 5th Gen forum, but don't post much here. I've owned a 5th gen with Ramboxes for 10 months now, and I'm not convinced I made the right decision. I still love their sex appeal, but they come with a LOT of baggage. When you get them you are committing yourself and future owners to never being able to install 95% of devices that one typically attaches to a bed - most tonneaus, shells, racks, rail tie-downs, campers, roof-top tents, etc. The boxes themselves are weak so you really shouldn't be climbing in by stepping on the tires. There are no tie-downs on the bed rails, and none can be installed. The boxes are often misaligned, or become so. If the truck's doors are unlocked, so are the boxes, so they can only be secured by locking your cab - all the time.
I'm not saying the Ramboxes are without their charm. You still have 49" of floor for your plywood. The bed area is a very handy box shape instead of a hodge-podge of leaf-trapping curves. If you are careful you can fit a lot of odds and ends into the boxes, that are not appropriate to carry in your cab (but the cavities are some pretty bizarre shapes).
I started having regrets when I decided I really wanted a tilt-up cover for my bed. I ended up installing a Lomax tri-fold, which at least is available for Rambox-equipped trucks, but for my needs is far interior to a 1-piece.

I didn’t buy a ram box for a reason. I’ve seen these things broken into, & fairly easily, and the huge loss of bed space. I see them gimmicky like the GMC tailgate.

I love my Ram Boxes, I keep my straps, road kit, blankets, first aid kit, cane, and what not in them. Yes, you lose bed space, being able to do a lot of other normal things that comes with a normal truck, but I don't do normal truck ****, and so it works for me. That is the question only you can answer.

These are 4th gen ramboxes. Not sure why 5th gen design would be inferior - though i have seen quite a few misaligned complaints on 5th gen forum. They are adjustable as well.

I climb and walk on my ramboxes all the time. Its a nice, wide area to stand on when loading awkward items in the bed. I've hauled large items on top of them and leaned heavy things against them - no issues. The bed side rail is also stronger than a standard bed (as evident by 5th gen multifunction gates requiring a bracket on the front of the bed non rambox trucks).

There is a movable tie down that can slide to any location on the top of the bed (2 on each side), so i've found no need to have the tied downs on the top of the bed rails like my 3rd gen had.

You can also lock 4th gen ramboxes all the time using a key, so they do not unlock/lock automatically with the key fob. Maybe this is not possible on 5th gens.

Mine view us just the opposite
My 2009 hemi crewcab Rambox has 431,285 miles on them . I work in HVAC Insulaton, had people walk on top to help tie down .
Tie downs are in the rails and moveable , 2 on each side .
You can add another .

With boxes of insulation I get more in the bed with Ramboxes, then with a toolbox over the bed .
5’7” bed with tool box does not leave a lot of room

With the tailgate extender it works well .

When we bought our 2015 Ecodiesel Longhorn Rambox for sure .

Soon will trade the Ecodiesel in on Ram 2500 cummins megacab Longhorn and Ramboxes .

Just my 2 cents
