Got an issue, haven't driven the Ram in a while and we took it out today to run cans to the recycle center and it sounds like I'm running mud tires when I have Goodyear LS2 street tires, never had this before. Changes slightly with turn pressure.

Jack up the front and spin the front tires. You could have a hub going, something stuck on the brake rotor or pads are going/gone. It sounds like a hub to me with it intensifying when turning.

I was kinda leaning that way too, just hard to bite the bullet on dropping that kind of cash on it and the amount of labor is gonna take me forever to do the job. Time to shop around for a pair of hubs I guess. I'm not gonna do just one, I know from experience that if one is going the other is gonna go right after it and I'm not doing the job twice. I know it's not the brakes, just did an inspection on those a few months ago and I hardly drive it.

Yes, I would recommend Timken. Hubs aren't something to let go cause you don't want tragedy to strike while going down the road.

The one going right after the other I have noticed not to be entirely true. There have been several vehicles I have owned through the years where one bearing set failed miserably and one was just fine.

Bearings are assembled by humans or machines built by humans. Some get more grease than others, some might have a few balls dropped on the grimy floor by a new employee that doesn't want to get fired and some might get whacked too heavily with the ram that installs the seals.

This happened on a daytona I owned, a firebird, an escort (though it ended up being a bad CV that made the bearing stressed out) and most recently a Ford 500 where one side was just hosed and the other was OK. I had an explorer also that had a one sided hum but I sold it before I fixed it.

Actually now that I ran through my entire memory I have never seen two go within less than a year of the other. Maybe the mud slinger camp or rock climbing camp has noticed otherwise but I would save a few bucks and just replace Mr. Hummer.

I can't tell from listening which is the bad one, and I can get a pair for a discounted price through Amazon Prime, so all I need to do is check to see if I have 4 wheel ABS and I'll get them ordered. I'm gonna do both since it's sitting at 144k already and I'd like to get another 100k out of it before another frontend rebuild.
