Front sensors

Anyone have this issue: In traffic, I'm not moving, nor is the vehicle in front of me, but suddenly the front proximity sensor starts beeping and showing in the center cluster. Sometimes it'll stop for a moment, then come back on. Doesn't do it all the time, but it's annoying.

I'd hate to disable the sensors because I need them - 6 months in the 5th gen and I still can't tell where the front is...

If the sensor is working right, you are stopping too close to the vehicle ahead of you. Try stopping so you can just see his rear tires and see if the beeping stops.

Sometimes, they just throw random warnings. Also, make sure the sensors are clean: Not covered with mud, or waxed over, stuff like that, and in winter, not iced over.
Your AVATAR still shows yer yellow beast, and states 2009, still have it?

Good point TB. Something as innocent as bug guts can cause false readings or no readings.

Driving school 30 years ago, they said you should be able to see the tire contact to pavement. I still adhere to that today.

Yup, I still use that practice, more often than not.

Not to be confused with those that insist on leaving 2 car lengths of space in rush hour traffic.

Front/side sensing saved my bacon in about 2008 with my new-to-me Tundra.
This was my first transition to full-sized trucks, or at least trucks I didn't want to spontaneously renovate.

That said, I have the rear park assist notifications disabled on my Ram truck to not interrupt the tunes while parking.

Nope, just forgot to fix that part of my profile apparently - did it now. Big Yella has moved on to a new home. I wasn't NOT happy about it, but things happen.

I was told that seeing the tires meet the road meant that you had room to go around if needed, but they don't recall them saying to use that as the standard distance.

I know what you mean about the electronics, I didn't want to give up my '09, but sometimes you do what you have to.

That's a shame ref the 09, but life does "truck" on (you forgot to change avatar pic, roflmao). Yeah, the front end on the 5th Gens are a lil hard sometimes to discern. You could always get those corner pingy wires and post "post" pieces at the corners on yer ride bumper like a snowplow, hee hee.

In Germany, in Military, we were required to leave *** amount of distance in front of vehicles, especially at lights and on the autobahn. ALL that did was cause a bunch of unhappy "germans", "americans" and whomeva else was on the roadway to just cut in front of you anyway.

You are correct. Was not on the test just the driver mentioning it. Good point with getting around people.

How about, employing a driving method that is incompatible with having front sensors enabled or malfunctioning front sensors?

It would be interesting to learn if stopping just a wee bit further away silences the notification.

I have an issue with my left front sensor on my ‘16. When it rains or is still wet from rain it random senses, but since they are only active below 7 mph I think it is I just ignore it for now. I’m thinking it’s water into connector or something like that, maybe you have a bad connector seal?

it is a new recent behavior maybe started about 6 months ago.

So far there's been no consensus. It doesn't do it all the time, and there never been an error on the EVIC so I'm not really sure at this point. Just a minor annoyance I thought I'd ask about.

and, whatever you do, don't try to back up with the tailgate down and the rear sensors on.. That truck will tell you immediately that you messed up.

did that a couple of times....lol
