I am replacing my drivers side front wheel bearing this weekend at 62,000 miles. Is it common for these units to wear out at this milage? Should I plan on replacing the other side soon before it goes on a trip?

Yes it is customary to do both sides at the same time ,front or rear the same with brakes . Can you continue with out ? Yes but there’s no telling for how long .

Mine usually wear out at arount 125K. Had same experience with my 3rd gen. I just did one of my front at 124K.

One of mine gave out at 130k. I ended replacing both fronts just for piece of mind. I've heard it's normal for them to go around 90k-120k miles. Wasn't too bad of a job to get them done. Took me and a friend about 2.5 hrs to do both of them. I went ahead and replaced the brake pads at the same time.
