How do I go about calculating the difference in cost of Between a hemi and an eco-diesel 1500.
.

There must be a formula or something. Do All you 5.7 hemi guys hate your fuel mpg? Is it even and issue?

I had a 14 Hemi with the 3.23 gears, I was getting about 17-18, when I switched to the Rebel with 3.93 gears, I am now getting between 15-16.5 now...

The ECO diesel is much better MPG but not available in every truck (i.e. No Rebels yet), but you have to factor the extra 3K for the ED though...

A bit late since you already bought the HEMI but...

Not hauling but I averaged 22mpg at the end of my 545 mile trip today from Indiana to Virginia (via West Va). 15k total on the Pentastar.

2013 V6/8spd 4x4 Crew 3.21
Here's it at 317 miles into the trip (some how dumped the finally tally?)

Drove about 15 miles down I35 in Austin Tx, was averaging 23 mpg doing 65mph. I have a 100% stock 2012 ram 1500 laramie quad cab. Overall was pleased with the mpg on the hiway.

First three tanks with my '16 EcoDiesel:

25.4
27.0
30.0

First tank: lots of surface streets and avoided freeways to help break-in (yeah yeah, I know it says you don't have to).

Third tank: plenty of freeway* at 65 but still a couple dozen short trips from dead cold.

*You guys back East or in LA, this means "nearly deserted freeway" compared to what you have to deal with. The vast majority of the time, my cruise control is on and I don't have to touch it.

What are the yearly/15,000 mile maintenance fees of the Eco Diesel?

My dealership will do an oil change/full service AND rotate tires for $27. I do that every 5000 miles. I've had my truck since 8/11. I am at 29,700 miles right now. I thoroughly enjoy my Hemi.

Maintenance, especially from the dealer, is way more on the EcoDiesel. I don't think it'll win any sort of "cost vs cost" comparison.

The ecodiesel requires a very specific type of oil which is quite pricey. Not only that but it uses a little less than 11 qts of it.

The filter is also currently quite expensive with no aftermarket version that has the same filtering as the oem one (at least from what I've found).

You take the ecodiesel to a dealer for an oil change expect to pay around $130.

Edit:not sure on the frequency of change required for the hemi but the ecodiesel requires change once per 10k per manufacturer.

How do I go about calculating the difference in cost of Between a hemi and an eco-diesel 1500.

In the process of buying a truck in the next few days and I'm still undecided. I'm finding OK deals on 15 Laramies and Limited's , A sport is not so easy to find nor is the eco unless you want to buy a new 16. I like the sport slightly better then the Laramie but hard to find with air sus and sunroof. I think if I pay cash instead of lease I should get a 14-15. There are a few used with less than 10k miles on them for around 37-41k on the hemi laremie. Ecos are 46k+.

I plan on keeping it for the next 8 to 10 years, I rarely tow, and have never owned a truck before.

Is the extra cost of the Eco really worth it? The mpg is amazing, so I just don't know. Diesel here is 2.30, gas is 1.85. I only do about 15k miles a year, lots of city. I hear the Eco does about 800mi a tank vs 350m on hemi.

There must be a formula or something. Do All you 5.7 hemi guys hate your fuel mpg? Is it even and issue?
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but the fuel cost comparison is now on every window sticker.

I have had my '14 Ram 1500 Blackout CC Express since October 14 and have put 27,300 miles on it. When on the highway I average around 23MPG and in the city I average around 19MPG. Most of my driving is short trips and my average is around 19 overall. On my last trip from the eastern panhandle of WV to VA Beach I was traveling between 70-75MPH and my EVIC was saying I was getting AVG 24MPG which is the best i have seen yet.

24 mpg at 75 mph? I don't think so. Unless of course you reset the mpg while you were already doing 75 and then babied the throttle..that doesn't count though.

You'll need to provide pictures and show hand calculated numbers if you want anyone to believe you.

As an experiment, I have been keeping track of my fuel economy and costs since the day I got my Ram halfway through 2014. See the pics in order below. These are all hand calculated and the EVIC is always about 1.5 mpg better, so obviously you cannot trust the EVIC mpg accuracy. The pale yellow columns are the ones I enter the info in...the rest of the info is all simple formulas.

Here's the fuel economy graph based on the data in the post above. If you look, you can clearly see the winter month gas and the summer month gas.

And here's the cost per gallon graph. I like how this one just keeps going down and down and down....
