Fuel line retainer clip

Heh guys, I noticed the smell of fuel and when I opened the hood up I saw that it was dripping from this fuel line here.

I’m wondering, is there like a retainer clip that’s supposed to go on top of that connector? Or is it just a case of it not being pushed in tight enough?

There is no clip, you just press it on and it locks in place. I would do all of the pushing and twisting and what not to try and get it to seal without having to take it apart. When I took mine off it probably took me an hour. In theory it should take 10 seconds with the right tools but I just couldn't get it to save my life.

If I wanted to replace that green connector — I dunno, mine just doesn’t feel “springy” anymore maybe that’s why it’s not locking into place — whats the part number? Also while I’m at it might as well replace any O-right?

I can’t seem to find a connector or a connector kit that says it’s compatible with a 4th Gen ram 3.6

Yaaaa I’m just not confident in these O-rings. Would feel safer if I replaced em all. Are there 3? The 2 yellow ones you see in the pic, and then I see one black one inside the hose?

Are both little locking tabs still on it,if they are,you could very carefully try spreading them out a bit,but if one is missing you're buggered.I don't know where you'd buy a new one,but i'm guessing they're available,if nothing else you might find one in a wrecking yard

Thanks! I was just scared of breaking it but maybe I’ll try spreading them out a bit. Now that I’ve seen the diagram of the O-rings above, I wonder if maybe they weren’t seated correctly? Because it felt like I could push the hose, but it wasn’t going any further past the tabs — maybe that hard plastic “spacer” o-ring was preventing it from pushing further?

Are the o-rings universal? Can I just pick up a set anywhere?

I don’t know guys…..im stuck. I wanna cry!!! No matter how hard push, or twist, it feels like the fuel line just doesn’t push completely to lock in. It’s almost like something’s preventing it from going any further? I checked inside the hose, looks good, the green connector seems fine,and everything looks straight and even…

What could be the problem????

Every time I pull the hose back off to try again, the o-rings n plastic spacer, etc seem to be stuck on the fuel rail piece? In the pic, this IS as far as the rings should slide on, right?

Ya, I saw this one that looks most similar to what I have….can I just take the green piece and o-rings out of this and attach it to mine?




Or I was thinking to replace the hose completely, with a factory one because either looks like the 2015+ trucks use a better connector (and what if my problem right now isn’t the green piece, but the hose itself)

But can I replace just just section of the hose (I don’t mind buying the whole hose, but if I can just easily unclip and attach this section, it would be easy because I can each it easy, versus trying to access the entire hose)

On yours, the clip, o rings and spacer appear to be disassembled and just slipped onto on the male part of the connector.

Have you tried removing them from the male part and correctly reassembling them into the female connector, as per the diagram?

From the factory, it's supposed to look like that Dorman part above, all assembled into the female connector. Perhaps having that stuff assembled wrong / disassembled, is preventing the connector clip from flexing properly.

I suggest removing that fuel line, the clip, spacer and o-rings and taking them to a well lighted workbench and reassembling them.

When you say “black piece”, do you mean this part?

I thought it was part of the male connector, so I didn’t even try taking it off. But it now makes a lot of sense if it does come off, because otherwise I can’t get the green piece off…

Hmm I was after to remove the fuel line — I would like to — but was scared to mess around with the connector at the other end because I didn’t wanna end up in the same position there too with it not being able to go back on lol.

I did try putting the o rings back, but every time they’d just slide back off — but now that I see I msg need to remove that black piece too, and fit it into the female connector — I’ll give it another shot tomorrow and see if that works

I looked up the 3.6 Pentastar fuel rail to see what that nipple looks like without the clip attached:




So, yea, it kinda looks like the thing you circled is the spacer that goes between the two o-rings.

This is a used OEM Pentastar fuel rail from eBay, with the clip still on the nipple.

It also appears different in the area you circled.
