I am installing an external fuel pump on my tbi 318(please dont ask questions about why).how much fuel pressure can the regulator handle?thanks

I'd postulate that you're modifying the fuel system on your 1989 Ram is that these fuel systems are no longer serviced with replacement parts.

There are different regulators out there with various pressure ranges. If I were you, I'd call up Airtex's tech line 800-424-7839 and call them and request help. I did this with my 1989 D-150 with the 3.9 V-6. They informed me as to which external fuel pump to use. Because my engine had TBI, the factory regulator worked just fine. If you are replacing a fuel pump, and you have TBI, you might be able to use the original, if it still functions. HTH
