Why are the 34 gallon tank pumps different than the 26 gallon pumps?

I have a pump out of a 34 gallon and mine from a 26. Mines a Mopar pump and not sure what the 34 brand is. Side by side comparisons the dimensions are the same. The float on my 26 is on the drivers side and the 34 float is on the passenger side. The wiring on the pumps are identical and the fuel inlets are the same. Why can't you use either one?

Well the 34 gallon pump is in and working fine. Had a half tank when it died, and its reading a half tank after the install.

Well done.. I couldn't see why they are different but then when looking at pcm numbers, they have a different pcm number for different tank sizes. .. go figure..
