Stupid question here. I’m having a tuff problem trying to find a sending unit for my 81 I want to be driving this truck not oooking at in the driveway. Can I replace it with a newer model one say from a late 80s early 90s?

81-87 is what sending units should fit. they are still readily available at $100 unless you don't mind paying lmc's markup. 88-90 fuel sending units are unique and junk. the 91-93 sending units are better but require a completely different tank to use them and even them they got an electric fuel pump that puts out way more pressure than your truck needs for a carb

Where’s a good place to find a sending unit? The local places around me can’t find them from there distributors and some people don’t understand what a sending unit is

only other place I've seen them is ebay.

getting parts for these old trucks is a pain in the ****!

I gave up and decided to go EFI. I guess that's trading $$ for headache. I lucked out and got my hands on a free 93 30 gallon tank off CL to go with the 92 22 gallon tank I already had. then got a screaming deal on Bosch 67611 pump/assembly for $70 each on amazon. Usually more like $170 everywhere else.

I have a 1990 dodge cummins and I had sending unit issues so I put a tank on the back and just used a electric fuel pump that costs 40 dollars roughly and wired it to a switch in the cab and the battery and I'm rolling again
