Fuel tank vent valve - 2005 Ram 1500

Body shop snapped a nipple off my fuel tank vent valve. Say they can’t find one and may have to put a used fuel tank Assy. In.
What would you do?

Fix it with a bulkhead fitting and a barbed nipple?

It is broken off too close to the body.

How'd they break it? i.e. what were they working on to break it?
I'd believe they need to replace it, if it were mine.
