2018 , tradesman quad cab , 5.7 , 4x4 . My build sheet says a 26 gal tank . I didn't mean to but drove too far and put 24.25 gals in it at last fuel stop .

My question is when does the low fuel light come on ? I did have something worked on with fuel tank system awhile back at the dealer , gas fume system ? Wonder if they unhooked something ?

Needle was a whisker from full on the empty line but sure figured the light would have come on ?

I read somewhere that in the Ram the low fuel light comes on when you have about 3 gallons left. I think that's about right because I have the 32 gallon tank and I've driven about 10 miles after the light came on then filled up, and it took about 29 gallons.

In my old Ford I could drive quite a ways after the light came on, but when the Ram light comes on it's best to fuel up pretty quick so you don't end up running the fuel pump dry, and overheating it. Because of that I usually gas up when it's down just below a quarter tank now.

Correct. 3 gallons is what the 2018 owner's manual says. Interestingly, the instrument cluster will also display FUEL LOW when you get really low. Mine showed 0 miles to empty, but I still had a quart and a half in the tank when I filled up. I guess when you're getting 7 mpg and have less than half a gallon left, 3 miles is pretty close to 0.

If the build sheet says 26 gal tank and nothing listed in options , I would guess its a 26 gal tank ? so , shouldn't the low fuel light have come on if it took 24.25 gals if indeed there is a 3 gal left when the light comes on or is there a 3 gal reserve on top of the 26 gals listed as the tank capacity ?

Maybe a trip back to the dealer that worked on the fuel tank is in order. Let them explain why it's not working.

"We can't replicate the problem"--"It's supposed to be that way"-- "Do you have an appointment?"--"The parts are on backorder"--"We don't have loaner vehicles".
etc etc etc etc------

A quick check of other forums finds that others with your size tank have had that problem. Maybe they programmed it for the larger tank? Mine comes on pretty consistently when I have around 50-55 miles left to go. Nice to have the light for when you aren't paying attention (and that happens to me), but really it's best to just fill up around a quarter tank to make sure the pump keeps cool.

My "internal" low fuel light comes on at 1/2 a tank. Once in a while I get daring and let it go to 3/8.

My low fuel light comes on at 50 miles left like clockwork. Has to be set in the computer it’s so consistent

My 26 gallon tank comes on when there’s 33 miles left to go.

I have seen my cousin pump almost a gallon more in, to the top of the pipe, after the first shut off. Perhaps a few squeezes after the first shut off accounts for the extra amount? Also gasoline expands and contracts so if the light had come on the day before when it was warmer but then it was filled the next morning, the light could have come on at the 3 gallon mark day one but then the gas could have contracted a bit overnight so there is actually a little less gas. Not saying this is the exact reason but there's a whole host a factors including potentially slightly skewed sensor in the gas tank.

Thats a bad idea. Your cousin is over filling the evap system with gas.

Yep, I told him to stop at first shut off but sometimes people have to learn the hard way. Sigh...
