The inter-loc kits are excepted for code outside of stand-alone auto switch over units down here...I installed mine with 6ga wire on a 50amp plug.yes there are idiots out there that will back feed without turning off the main...im further south from tampa.not as bad as IAN but holy crap I didn't like sum of the winds here....I thought it was over around 1am here....finally laid down for a spell and then about 3am all hell broke loose...jumped up!ran around the house again feelin sum ptsd from IAN....swear it was worse at that time than the whole time before it landed north of us...lots of flooding(not us)...our power was back on by the evening next day.genny worked flawless.
Thanks guys for all the sympathys...there are alot of people screwed here from the flooding

I am considering buying a whole home generator because of stuff like this. Our last leftist government decided to push all our coal fired electricity plants to close or convert to natural gas, which is great in theory but the timeline left us pretty reliant and green sources such as solar and wind. Now we get warnings we are maxing out the grid whenever is is hot or cold outside. The last warning came when it was only 28F. With shorter days and no wind we are pushing the limit. It is not even cold yet and our system is stressed. What is going to happen when real winter sets in and it is -30F out?
