Gauge Cluster Question

Just curious.....
I have a gauge cluster out of my 3rd gen 1500.
I put it up for sale last week and I've got people asking me how many km/miles are on it.
I always thought that info was stored in your ECU and your cluster was just to display it or does the cluster itself actually store your km/miles?
Can anyone help me here?

The info is stored on the cluster and the ecu/pcm. The cluster would have to be programmed to the mileage of whatever truck it goes in.

Thanks..... what if you didn’t get the cluster programmed? What milage would it show? The one in the ECU or the one on the cluster?
