Hey guys I just finished installing a new gears in my diff and im currently in the break in process. When doing my 20 minute highway runs I noticed it starts humming when I get into the 70mph range. I rebuilt my driveshaft as well with a new slip yoke but only took care of some vibration was having before.
I originally had the stock 3.55s and installed a set of nitro 4.10s with new hearings and seals. When installing them I set it all to spec and got a good pattern In my opinion. It is my first time regearing so I could have something wrong. Thanks for all the help guys!

Unfortunately no. I readjusted twice and installed a new set of gears but still had the same problem… the contact patters I came up with we’re looking pretty good to me but it still makes the humming noise at high speeds. Went through everything with a fine tooth comb when I changed the fluid after the 500 mile break in and things looked good. Might just be noisy gears. At least I hope the gears are just noisy.

Pattern looks good.

Try RL or Amsoil

Are you sure it is gear hum and not your new driveshaft/U Joints causing the hum?

I’m currently running Amsoil in it. It may be a slight bend in the driveshaft but I don’t recall it humming before the new gear install. I know things spin a fair bit faster now but even at uncomfortably high speeds with the old gears it was relatively quiet… darn thing has me stumped. I haven’t torn back into it yet, truthfully I was just going to let it live it’s life that way cause I don’t want to take it apart for the 5th time. Soon I will take my driveshaft in and get it checked. Next summer I might gain more ambition and throw a new set of bearings in and see if it changes anything.
