Found out today that my truck has 3.09 rear axle ratio. 95% of my driving is in the city. 25-40 MPH stop & go. How are those gears help or hurting my MPG when considering the type of driving I do? Any info is appreciated as I know nothing about gears.

No 3.09 available. Only 3.21s, 3.55s, or 3.92. 4.10s only available in the R/Ts.

Like mentioned, these trucks didn't even come with a 3.09 gear ratio. There should be a sticker on your rear axle that shows your gear ratio.

I'll go outside and check for that sticker. Thanks

Looked at the sticker and it says 3.55. Why would the dealership have a different number in their computer?

You haven't dealt with dealerships much have you? :emotions33:

I'd stick with the 3.55 personally, but the 3.92 WILL offer you better performance off the line and for towing.

No I have not. I'm not racing or towing. Mostly interested in how my gears affect MPG because of how luck I'm driving in the city.

What transmission do you have? Shorter gears(numerically higher) will be better for city stop and go driving.

5 and 6 speed probably feel about the same with 3.55 gears doggy. Not like the 6 speed is really much different.
