Hey all. Happy thanksgiving to all of you and your families!

I drive about 125 miles a day for work round trip. I had a 2013 Ram Hemi express. I traded it in for my 2018 Ram. I also Had a 6.0 Powerstroke that I bulletproofed and threw a ton of miles on. I sold it because its purpose wasn’t being served and it started to get a bit expensive. I used my wife’s Mazda CX-7 for fuel saving purposes. I get between 25-29 with it. I decided to make my 2018 Ram Pentastar my commuter. I commuted with it for about a year when I first got it, then I got the diesel itch.

The point of this story is that I will be the highest mileage Pentastar owner on this forum(educated guess) in about 3 years. Right now I have 59,800 on it. I bought it brand new in feb 2018. I love the truck. I commute with it and do random things with it during my commute.(Pick up wood, hay etc.). I have been getting 22-23.9 with it. I can live with that since I am choosing to commute with It.

I have been using full synthetic oil in it since it was new. I haven’t done any other fluids yet. Supposedly the differential fluid change is overdue.

So we will see. I’m mechanical and can deal with whatever comes my way. Part of the reason I got this engine with the truck is because it seems easy(er) to work on. Parts seem cheaper too. Wish me luck!

If you have any advice, I’ll gladly accept it!

I like the Pentastar, one little tough mfacker that runs and runs and keep running. Further more now that i'm full Mopar owner after trading my old 10 Silverado 1500 couple of weeks ago for a 14 Durango with the 3.6L. 10 more hp than what my Wrangler unlimited had also with the Pentastar hahaha.
This is what she's gets fwy only at 70mph even with full time AWD. The Pentastar makes for a really nice combination of power and mpg when mated with the NAG1 or even better if you have the ZF8 trans.

Love my Tradesman quad cab with full short bed. It's exactly the same length as my 98 quadcab but with a much more fuel efficient engine and much more space in the back seat. The difference in mileage, awesome! 15mpg in my 5.9 magnum vs 27+ in my 3.6 pentastar.

The 3.6 is a great motor many years on the Ward's best list. Loves synthetic oil and the OEM filter works well also. Mated to the 8 speed you'll rarely ask for more.

Good choice for the truck. I have yet to hear any owner complain about this engine.

I concur. My '17 Laramie CC 4x4 serves us well. With tube steps, bed rug and Leer topper, I've seen just shy of 26MPG on longer trips and am averaging 20MPG for its entire 16000+ miles. I'd say 60% are short trips. This includes two long trips pulling my 7x14 cargo trailer with a 1900lb Bug inside. It seems to thrive on 87 octane E10 where my Hemi used to like 89 octane. Plus, at my age, spinning tires is a fond memory rather than a necessity! :Big Laugh:

You're right - you will be the highest-mileage six-banger at that rate.

I have 34k miles on mine now. I commute 100 miles to the office and back about once a week sort of, maybe once every two weeks now. The rest of the time I use it locally for (homesteading) chores, grocery-getting, and the occasional 400 mile round-trip drive to the in-laws' place for holiday stuff (which I did over Thanksgiving week), or the rare touristy road-trips to various places in Utah, Las Vegas, Vancouver (Canada), Jackson Hole, etc.

That said, I barely put 10k miles on the truck in the last 12 months (around half of it spent on commuting to/from the office)... and given that I don't have to drive into the office nearly as much these past few months, I suspect that my odo-jacking average will drop even more.

Ok so it’s not just me. My avg mpg since getting the truck is 22 mpg. Same gear ratio and stock tires as well. 2 inch lift and k&n air filter are only “mods”. Also a tonneau cover.

that being said, my mpg is the best out of any truck that I’ve had.

09 ranger: 15-16
13 Ram Hemi: 17-19 mpg
04 f250 6.0: 14-18. Got 20 once.

I used to... but then I put the front grille guard on (and left off the air dam under the bumper because I was too lazy to reinstall it), then I got aggressive tires. I'm down to 22-23mpg unladen now... but I drive nearly all highway miles (my driveway empties directly onto a state highway), and we don't really use a lot of corn in our gas up here (no E85 crap, anyway).

I am all stock and even with the SRA's I was a avg. 22 mpg.. I am rural, 1 stop light in town :O and maybe 5 in the next town and Bangor 10 at the most so not a bunch of stop and go lol. I purchased my 2015 used with 19k on the clock in 2016. I assume the transmission does a self relearning with new driver ??? BUT With Ethanol fuel the average drop in mpg is about 10% :O CITGO does sell Ethanol free fuel about 50 + cents a gal more . I get about 1 to 2 mpg better in mt RAM but funny on my old HHR no difference :O

Putting the air dam back on will bring your mpg back to almost normal.

Ugh, do I have to? It sucked taking the thing off, I'd have to carve a couple of slots in it for the grille guard, It's the middle of rainy season, it looks yucky under there...

(can you tell I'm looking for excuses now? In all seriousness, I probably will slap it back up come Spring, but I need a set of those little body-panel pin thingies first... I have it on my Amazon wish list, so if I don't see 'em for Christmas I'll likely get them in time for spring, I suspect.)
