Do you have to have the bumper sensors for these lines to work? My 2019 Express has the colored lines, but they don't change as I get close to something. They do show the predicted path, but they don't show me how close I am to something. If that is normal for a truck like mine, it seems it shouldn't show the green, yellow and red lines, just some solid color.

It's normal. On mine the green shows lots o' room, the yellow shows enough room to open the tailgate without hitting anything and the red shows the tailgate cannot be safley opened.

The colors don't change, they just are there to show you how close you are.

Does the audible get louder and louder as you get closer? My Tradesman does. It finally maxes out with a continuous warning beeeeeeeeeeeep! when I'm about 12" away. Camera view leaves a lot to be desired, a.k.a., it sucks. Grainy. Unclear. At least I still have the ability to back up into something if I so desire. ;-)

The Park Assist lights showing how close your to something is on the 7" EVIC(if eqipped). The audible beeping also is directional, whichever corner of truck is getting close to something that's the corner speaker the beep comes from.
It's possible the OP has the back up camera but not the Park Assist sensors/system.
I find it hilarious and sad that people still back into thing even on vehicles with both these systems. Just another step in proving if you makes something idiot proof, your just get better idiots. :-/

Agreed, I can still parallel park my 19 foot long 66 buick, and it doesn't even have a passenger side mirror! How are people still running into anything with these things?

I understand how it works now. I've only had the truck a little over a month and until the other day, never backed up close to anything. I thought for some reason the colored lines went away as you got closer, but obviously they don't and really couldn't do that.

For the record, I didn't hit anything because I could tell how close I was. I just didn't know exactly how those lines actually worked.

@89grand do you have the ParkAssit sensors also? Conversations on the forum sometimes cover a wider net than the topic at hand, I don't think anyone was inferring that you hit anything.
You can turn the back up grid lines off through the radio settings, some have had them turn off during a radio update.

Correct, I wasn't inferring 89 grand had, just that I don't understand the people that still do manage to hit something.

yes it does make you wonder, I've logged hundreds of thousands of miles in fleetside(no back windows) vehicles and haven't sideswiped or backed into anything. It wasn't until about 3 years ago any of them had a back up camera.

Wonder how they do vehicle driving exams now since all these fancy vehicles have self park mode, etc. When we started, we had to parallel park and be within 18" of curb, etc, wheels turned into curve. Heck, on a Motorcycle course, they made you park your bike on a incline and how to do properly, etc. Still waiting for automatic parking for my Motor Trike, lol. how. Where I grew up, U want a spot downtown, U best know how to parallel park. (Feed that meter too).
