Were you in the truck when it was weighed? If not, subtract your weight as well. For example, if you weren't in the truck and weigh 200 pounds you have only 460 pounds of payload capacity. That means 2 friends, OR a trailer with a maximum tongue weight of near that amount (doing the general math it would be 460 / .15 = about a 3,000 pound trailer). Not sure what you have in and on your truck but the addition of running boards, in-bed full toolboxes, tonneau covers, front-end winches, etc. all count against payload capacity and this directly impacts the maximum weight of any trailer one can tow. This is the biggest reason for trouble with trailer towing, people see the advertisement of "...capable of towing up to 11,000 pounds..." and don't realize that is generally with the base model, bare-bones no options, single person in truck configuration.

Take unnecessary stuff out and re-weigh.

yes i was in the truck and there is nothing unnecessary in the truck. my RAMBOX’s have various tools, air compressor, recovery kit and fishing gear in them. nothing unnecessary.

You're correct. Legally you can only put 6800lb on your 4 tires. Do people go over that? Yes, often.

3/4 ton diesels are just as bad
