Just a bit of advice after reading numerous posts on this site and others...
There is a lot of talk about the cheap gaskets that come with aftermarket bolt-on headers, and I discovered quickly just how true it is. After less than a year and constant re-tightening of bolts that really weren't loose, I decided to replace the gaskets on my BBK shorty headers.
As I read, I saw two common responses to this problem...use OEM gaskets and get Remflex gaskets. So, I started my homework, with some questions rattling around in the back of my head.
First, the OEM thing. The fact is, the Original Equipment gaskets WILL NOT work with headers. The '07 and all hemis in that series have a D shaped port with gaskets to fit. They WILL NOT work with a round header. What I suspect people were talking about were the aftermarket Mopar supplied ROUND header gaskets. Now, they are made by Chrysler, but they are not OEM. Lesson 1 learned, and I'm picking up the factory ROUND header gaskets today.
Lesson 2, and this one just about bit me. Remflex apparently makes great gaskets. I checked on their website and observed that they didn't have any listed for the '07, so I called. Nice lady, and she said "sure, they are for your model." Thought about it a bit more, and decided to email them with the specific question based upon what I was seeing online. Sure enough, they DO NOT yet make a gasket for the '07 and all the hemis in that series. They hope to have one out soon, but not yet.
While I appreciate the help of others, we need to clarify what we are saying and make sure that the info is accurate for the particular year condition. Otherwise, rookies are just spinning their wheels.
Thanks for letting me vent a bit.
