Did a search. Couldn’t really find what I’m looking for... but probably been asked a million times [emoji23]

I have a 3500 tradesman, and finally getting stuff order for it that I’ve wanted to do since my first ram 3 years ago, deciding if I want to go with the black out quads and the h9/9011 bulb swap, or go to the black out ram projectors (and retroshop harness). But is there a bulb upgrade for the projectors? I’d like to stay halogen since they are halogen projectors iirc? I don’t wanna venture down the led route as they seem like a headache. And hid’s dont sound much better??? But the projectors looks abit better. But cost twice as much when all said and done, but if the quads put out better light then I’ll go with those

Where have you seen LEDs are difficult or troublesome? Order em, put em in and program truck to accept them..pretty statight forward for so much more light..but that's just my .02...

LEDs are terrible headlight bulbs. Decent for high beams but that’s about it.

From YouTube, and reading, the factory headlights are designed for halogen, not led, so light output isn’t correct and does perform correctly and kills oncoming people (much like one guy every night with his gmc truck that put leds in it and laughes about it) 2ndly, canbus issues, 3rd flickering problems and short life span, 4th stupidly expensive bulbs, halogens with the right setup are great, just have to have the right bulbs, even if I have to change them out once a year it’s cheaper then led’s that don’t last 6-8 months, and don’t requirement to butcher the housings, and living in the northeast with major temperature swings which will lead to major condensation in the housings

Ok they may be issues, we have temp swings here in VA and so far no Issues with LED Hikari Pro versions..plug and play with the exception of the apha OBD programer which you will want anyway to turn on any dealer possible item and scan your truck, but if it's not for you it's not for you...I have never had a halogen aand have tried many for both Chevy and ram legal and illegal put out the purity and cleanness of light the Hikari can..but it's all personal preference...get with someone in your area and physically see what they have and if it's what you want seems to me to be the only way you will be satisfied...trust me I get that...

I don’t think my truck could even be programmed to accept leds, it’s a tradesman with the chrome quads, wouldn’t led be a 5th gen limited thing???

I have a 2018 2500 tradesman and an running led's. Programmed the truck with alphaobd to accept led's and have zero issues. Running the modifystreet projector 2019 style with Hikari led's in the low beams

Hmmmm. What did that setup run between bulbs, lights, and alpha

And did you did need any special adapters, etc

Not really huge on those lights. The 13-18 projectors I like abit more followed by the black quads

Headlights were $330
Hikari led's I got on sale for $70
Alphaobd I had purchased previously is $50 for other mods along with the 2018 security bypass cable $50 (Only special cable needed) nothing else

Where did you get the alpha from? I’ve got a 16 so I know I’m good/don’t need the security bypass as that’s a 17 or 18 and up deal.

Did you replace both the high and low beams? And any turn signal issues (I was glancing at the post below about whose lights and some guys are having turn signal issues? (When it gets to wiring and computer stuff. I’m fine with red to red, black to black, but outside of that. I absolutely dread anything with this that isn’t easy, such as the factory 13-18 projectors and the retro shop plug n play kit lol)

Anyways. Almost time to hit the time clock and go home

I did replace both high and lows with led's. I'm not really happy with the led's for highs I got so I didn't say anything about those. Going to try something in a few days to see if it changes anything.

The security bypass harness is for 18+ trucks

Yes alphaobd.com is the site. If you have a android device you can just download it from the Google play store.

I forgot to add you'll need a Bluetooth obd2 reader. A majority including myself use obdlink mx or the mx+ ( mx+ supports iOS) they run ~$70-$90. Other's are using a elm327 obd2 reader which is ~$15 and have reported no issues making changes. I have one of those also from a previous truck and used it to change drl locations. Beyond "basic" changes I'm not sure how well the elm327 would work.

Yes some people are reporting having a error message appear because of the led turn/park lamps with these headlights. But change the turb/park lights to led in quads and you'd have the same error. Adding resistor or canbus adapters may fix it but in reality it's a band-aid fix for the computer.

I do agree I'm not a 100% on the looks of these 19 style but for me it's basically the lower light cover is to big. But I bought them knowing I'd open them up and paint them so I'm going to try and find a way to make it appear smaller

And don't let the OBD programmer discourage you...it is terrible simple and works like a charm...did my DRL after a radio upgrade last night...took 10 min and showed up in radio etc, fully integrated and NO paying the dealer..one setting pays for the programmer and software...and you can test any bulb, function any electronic item in the truck any time you like..it is quite a powerful tool..
