Hello, this is my first post here. Profile says 2001 with 4.7L, but it's actually a loaded Dakota w/3.92s that I bought new. However, I'm shopping 2016 Outdoorsman models as I want a comfy and nicely equipped truck that can handle a 5-6k trailer. As I'm looking, tho, I only see the projector headlights on Laramie and Longhorn models and they have less payload capacity as well as being a lot more money. Is it possible to get those lights in an Outdoorsman, or add them later through parts?.

Thanks!

DG

You definitely can add what ever you want...like switch out parts and so forth...the dealership will love you for that. If you don't order a truck that way though, the factory projectors are PRICEY to just buy them and add them yourself. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but i'm pretty sure that you need a special wiring harness to run factory projectors and factory led tails on a truck that didn't come with it from the factory.

Yeah, I figured as parts add-ons the projectors would be spendy. And I hadn't thought a bought other lights being affected, but as computerized as the new trucks are I guess every change has a ripple effect. Was hoping I could maybe keep an eye out for a set of projectors from a parter...

It irks me that these lights can't be ordered on an Outdoorsman, at least according to the sales guys. If there is any trim level that could put the improved lighting to good use it's the Outdoorsman. ☹️

Thanks,

DG

It will run you probably around $600-700 for everything for a projector swap
