I was recently cleaning my pickup with the radio on and noticed the front door speakers sounded very muffled compared to all the other speakers. I tried to read a little and read something about the front door speakers being the most crossed over speakers in the system. What does that mean exactly? Are they supposed to be muffled sounding? If not is there a speaker that is a good easy replacement?

Thanks,
David

Hi David,

Sorry to hear of the trouble you are experiencing with your sound system! If you are not able to determine a solution based on suggestions from fellow forum members, I kindly recommend following up with your local Ram dealer for further support.

Your front door speaker are crossed over. Meaning all the highs and some mids are going to the dash so you are only going to get mid/low frequencies out of the door. So yes they will not get the full range of the music and probably sound somewhat muffled (no highs or voice). I don't know the exact cross over frequency but that is probably what you are experiencing.

Don't go to the Ram dealer like Ram care said. That will just cost you money for nothing.

Probably more midbass, they wants highs on the dash (vocals) out of the three speakers.

Most posters mess with their speakers and always complain after because of the sound. This is when they rip the speakers out and replace them.If your going to do it you would have to change all the speakers and also the amp to achieve the sound you approve of.

Ideally, the door speakers should be crossed over to only play bass frequencies, while the dash plays the upper frequencies. That's how the Boston setup is in my Magnum. Maybe in lesser systems like my truck without the Alpine the front doors and dash both play full range, but they really shouldn't.
