Hello all,

I'm new here and new to the Cummins world. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I recently bought a 2012 Ram 3500 that has just over 200k miles. My wife took the truck to work the other morning then took it to lunch and when she came back out from eating she crunk the truck, put it into drive and nothing. It has park and I can feel it cycling through the gears but the truck will not move. I've checked all the linkages and that part seems to be functioning properly.

Has anyone had these issues before and was able to find the problem?

Thank you for your time and knowledge!

is it 4x4? If so, make sure the transfer case isn't in neutral.

Sorry, that's all I got... other than your trans may be fried!

I'm not sure if it's even the same type of tranny but years ago I had a Toyota truck do something similar and it turned out to be the solenoids - basically, an electrical rather than mechanical problem. With trannys that's often the best news.

I would check the simple things first. Does it leak anywhere? Check the fluid and see if it seems burnt. Then, scan for codes if you know someone with a scanner. If there is a code in it, go from there. There are alot of miles on the tranny, so it could be an electrical component, like a solenoid. I am leaning towards something like a solenoid, because you said she drove it fine, then just parked it and then it would no longer move.

Finally got it to move. I've got to really rev it for the truck to move. Going in the shop. Thanks everyone for the info!

I will try to follow up.

If you really have to rev it for it to move it seems like a low fluid symptom or a pressure problem.

I hope it's a simple fix. When that happened on my 2008 Jeep Wrangler, the transmission was toast. Luckily the dealer got it fixed under the lifetime warranty. Even with a 3" lift, 35" tires, 4.88 gears, and a swapped in Rubicon D44 front axle.

Good luck

Finally got the pan off. The spin off filter had backed off and was laying in the pan... hope everything else is good.
