Its not so much charging issues im concerned with. It's the potential added failure points for minimal (at best) gains.
2&1/2 years and 48k. No issues of any kind with the eTorque system. Not saying I love it and wouldn’t want a truck without it. But, it’s not the nightmare people think it is. I’d buy another one without giving it a thought.

I'm glad its working out for you. Everything works until it doesn't. I believe 2021 was the last year it was an option. Thankfully my 21 doesn't have it.

2022 was the last option year I believe. Mine is fine so far - 24 months old but few miles.

I am SOOOOOO glad I busted my butt to find a new Ram hemi 5.7 classic WITHOUT the eTorque. Even though I had a perfectly good Ram, I felt I should buy a new one just guessing that the stock 5.7 hemi was never to be seen again.

BTW my son in law bought a new Ram with the eTorque hemi at the same time as me and he has had endless electrical problems with his new truck, including needing a new battery within 6 months.

Why can't this company just accept what most of us want - the tried-and-true plain Jane hemi? Best engine ever made in my book.
As mentioned before, all manufacturers get EPA credits just for having Start/Stop whether it's highly effective or not. The last few cars I've been in that are already 25-30MPGs had it.

If you're keeping a truck for, say, 5 years or less on average I think the odds are strongly with you to not have an issue.

If you're keeping a truck for, say, 10 years + on average then I think you'll eventually need a costly repair that a non-eTorque wouldn't have had. Did the fuel savings make up for that repair in the meantime? I suspect no, but I don't really know.

Everyone's use is different. We're low miles per year but keep them for a looooong time. Etorque is not something I want.

You may be correct. I’ve already kept this truck longer than my last two. My plan was to order a new 25 but, then they did what they did with eliminating the Hemi. So, I’ve still got it.

I was in the same boat. My 2019 non-ET Classic is fine (less than 37K miles), but I was looking at the 2025s initially. But after reading more about them, I put my plans on pause to see what happened. With the return of the Hemi in 2026 I am happier about the choices available. I know that the ET system puts some folks on high alert. But for myself, I am more inclined to go with the ET Hemi than the Hurricane. But I am willing to wait a while to see what shakes out of the Ram tree, I don't have to rush into anything.

I would take an Etorque 5.7 over the Hurricane, only because of the two turbos and (especially) the problematic direct injection.

I think its pretty simple, the Etorque is designed to fail at some point. The battery only has 8yr warranty and the 48v MGU. So eventually they will go and you will have $2-4K worth of fixing. Add in the manifold issues and cam/lifter issues and that's your end game. On the SST you got thermostat issues and a bunch of unknowns with a bazillion more moving parts/systems. Turbos have a limited lifespan as do the electronic boost control solenoids and all the other cr@p that makes it run. Ram is only trying to appease the EPA and credits and could care less about longevity as they make more money knowing your gona get a new truck in 8-10 years or spend a butt load to fix it. I would look at other twin turbo setups to get an idea, I know the Ecoboost guys love to replace turbos and they aint cheap.
