I'm thinking of putting HID bulbs in my reflector housing. Does anyone know if I need the entire HID kit with the ballast or can I just change the bulbs and flash the canbus with AlphaOBD?

I know you can change the bulb type in AlphaOBD just need to know if the ballast kit is necessary with AlphaOBD.

Ballast kit is required.

You should consider a good led instead. The pattern better and don't have the glare that HID do so they are safer for oncoming drivers.

For either use AlfaOBD and set to HID.

I tried LED’s in my 03. They had a weird pattern and no better down the road vision than standard halogen bulbs. Silvania Ultras were brighter, in doing some research the HID’s have virtually the same beam pattern as the halogen but have much better down the road vision.

im still undecided, just looking for more input and information to make an educated decision.

I used HID in my 06. I used sealight L2 LED in my 18. Less glare and more precise pattern with led in the 18. With the quad headlights the HID will work better than my 06. On the 06 the high beams where worse than stock as the moving build wasn't in the correct focal point. I had HID in a h11 low bean in my 10 town and country (now running actual HID projectos). My 18 quads with the sealight have less hot spots and more even pattern than the T&C had.

Once you use AlfaOBD to set foe HID either should work. For high beams led is better than HID due to instance startup.

Chances are your led bulbs were clocked wrong, that will give a horrible pattern and tons of glare. The chips need to face 3 & 9.
Your research on HIDs is completely wrong.
HIDs do not have the same pattern as a halogen, they are much brighter, but the glare to on coming traffic is insane. Do not put HIDs in a reflector housing. Only use them in a proper projector.
