2014 Ram Ecodiesel primarily used commercially to transport Airstream TTs from the Mfg to dealerships nationwide mostly Ohio to west coast. Then take Forrest River TTs or Fineline boats etc from the Mfg to dealerships back east. Most are in the 5 to 8k weight range.

Had a slow coolant leak that may have led to a water pump failure at 350k & overheat which may have led to it pushing out a head gasket at 371k. At which point I put in a new factory motor that I got wholesale price of $5,500 with 24 month unlimited mileage warranty which it’s still in. Basic R&R labor book hours $1500. Truck just turned 525,000 miles. Original 8 speed still flawless.

Full synthetic every 10k per original warranty & filter life. Did 15k for awhile as oil analysis showed fine for my duty cycle. Factory fuel filter/ water separator every 30k per original warranty. Transmission fluid change every 100k. Differentials every 100k ish with periodic finger dip fluid inspection.

I posted pics etc in a previous high mileage thread.

Any chance you can show pic of how you hooked up to filters original location. Had setup given to me but the guy had no idea how is father hooked it up.

It just spins onto the regular filter location then the OUT on that goes to the IN on the new filter inlet and the IN on the regular filter location goes to the OUT on the new filter inlet

Thread sealant on the fittings into the aluminum filter units as shown is a must but not on the AN fittings (blue to black) those are just tightened up preferably using an AN wrench if possible or adjustable works but will scratch the fittings

Also a different filter is needed for this as the OEM threads on the engine block housing side are different than the new filter location 1731a4f1156074bf2f8d9d161ac92270.jpgdbb299db7c94a5607a6a0c59edc04957.jpg8fc257e7c2298094ab423a544735648e.jpgb673ef9f01ae2f9180cc3cf217b120ef.jpg4324983283eb8805deb60a04eccf060a.jpg

I purchased a couple of Police Chargers when I was Procurement Officer for the City of Wasilla. I see they recently sold them after in service from 2009 to 2017 but no hours indicated.

However, there are plenty of other Chargers on publicsurplus.com.

Other members who are techs for dealers have reported that the police cruisers are coming in at 50-70k miles with failed cams/lifters. FCA is now shipping engines to dealers rather than putting in a cam/lifter kit. They say "the high idle time is taking out the rear rollers and cam lobe due to low pressure oil starvation" From what we have seen posted, high idle time is about 30% run time. My tech told me that he has done two cam/lifter jobs on 5.7s. He increased the idle to 600 with trans in gear.

As others have done in past threads and posts on this subject. We should point out and remember, most 5.7 Hemi's never have a cam lifter failure. Just some.
And thats why I started this thread, to see if any high mileage guys have any excessive idle time. Only problem is I thought earlier 4th gens showed that stat but some have said they don't. I know with mine you scroll through the dash readout to the tire pressure screen then scroll left or right a few screens and it shows idle & run time.

From what I remember reading 2011 was one of the worst years for it.... I idle mine in the winter for.maybe 10 or 15 min in the morning before I head out... and in summer about 3 to 5 min before I take off... it's not excessive but I'm sure some guys do the same. Pretty happy with how many km I've got out of the engine with zero mechanical failure no water pump or sensors..

I'm at 270,000 km on my 2011, but still under 4000 hours even though I usually remote start it twice in the winter and occasionally leave it running for road side naps. Engine wise no tick, cels and still feels strong. One exhaust manifold needed doing once and just regular maintenance. Oil, pcv, plugs, air filters and the odd tank of premium fuel. Mostly just run 87 though. Also usually just run conventional 5w20 in the summer and whatever decent 5w20 synthetic is on sale in the winter. Used to go 7500 kms, but since I buy filters by the case from rock auto and oil on sale I do 5-6 km intervals now just because I feel like it. Pretty much every 2 months.

I'm not high mileage. I've just surpassed 45k miles. I've previously owned 1 3rd gen and 2 4th gens. None of which I've kept longer than 60k miles. I've simply traded up over the years. With that said, I'm very content with my current truck and I plan on keeping this one. My goal is to reach 200k and beyond if able.

The trend I'm seeing here is everyone doing oil changes between 3-5k miles, granted some are referring to 3rd gens as well. Regardless, here is my dilemma. I purchased the 100k mile extended maintenance Plus plan. The Plus plan provides oil changes every 5k miles. After the fact I realized my truck only requires maintenance every 10k miles. My oil life display averages 50% every 5k miles, but because I already paid for the services I still take her in as scheduled. My question is, should I keep changing it every 5k miles after my plan runs out, or should I go based off of my oil life display?
