My '04 is going into high RPM's when towing and feels as it's not jumping into gear, but runs great when not towing. What gives ?

Is your trans slipping? When you say "not jumping into gear", please explain. Truck should "be" in gear, not jumping in. Feel like you're just going fwd even tho engine is revving? How many miles on truck and do you know the histore. Also, what engine, trans do you have? Assuming an auto trans.

Did you engage the tow/haul button? It’s probably just running in 3rd gear to keep from towing in overdrive because that puts a good bit of strain on the drive train

Tranny is getting weak. It’s not in any pain not towing but it’s hurting a lot while towing. If that makes any sense
