I have a 2016 Ram with the 6.7 Cummins and 68RFE. I don't like the way it feels when shifting not sure if it's normal? Seems like it goes 1-2-3-4-5- 5 lockup - 6(rpm's raise a little) then 6 lockup(rpm's back down). Between 5 lockup and 6 it's almost like a stutter shift, 5 lockup seems good, then it seems to shift weird to me, it has a tuner from pervious owner, not sure if something is frigged up with it or it's just a weird shifting slosh box. If it would go from 5 lockup straight to 6 lockup it would feel good, but it's a weird shift between 5 and 6. Shifting manually everything seems normal. Stutter shift? Tried to do a relearn in alpha OBD but it fails, reprogrammed speedo, and disconnected batteries, fluid level and condition is fine. 160K

Sounds fairly normal, except lockup should happen in 4th as well.

The 68RFE is designed to slip between shifts (fluid coupling) so that the trans isn't slammed with all the torque from the motor at once. What happens on every one I've ever owned:

1-2-3
4 (then lockup) - it will rev up slightly like it's slipping while it locks up
5 quick rev like it's slipping then lockup and immediately jump into 6th. Sometimes it's a VERY quick 5-6 shift
6 quick rev like it's slipping then lockup.

My current 68RFE is tuned and it still shifts pretty much the exact same way as untuned... it just has higher line pressure.

ahhh.... so it sounds like it's normal, I check to feel if I can feel 4th lockup. things seem like they shift better when tow/haul is engauged

It does seem that way because it changes the shift points and allows the transmission to hold the gear longer and it raises the line pressure a bit. You'll get a firmer feeling shift.
