30ft. Jayco 267BHSW with usually about 7,000lbs on the trailer axles. I use the factory supplied shank adaptor and everything is great. Almost 1,000 miles on this first big trip with some BLM camping. Dirt and gravel roads with about 4 miles of real rocky stuff at Zapata Falls. Real slow and easy the whole time. I put the TT back in the hole when we get back and disconnect everything. I can’t get the shank adaptor out of the receiver. Have to tap it out (hard) with a punch and it looks like the holes on the receiver for the pin have “crushed” and elongated. I guess I’ll take the Dremel to the inside of the receiver and file down the steel near the holes. The adaptor is gouged on both sides from me banging it out so I’m confident the problem is at the holes. With my finger I can feel the steel almost crumbling near the holes. Anybody ever experience this? Thanks.

IMO

To be frank,
Stop using an adapter. Get the appropriate ball mount for your trucks receiver.

I Have a Weigh Safe as well. If i could do it again i would get something else. Im not a fan of the aluminum. I thought id be ok with it but it bothers me.

Im OCD

Im sure it is perfectly safe. But iv been a welder my entire life. And the aluminum just bothers me.

The size of the 2.5” shank is super stout. But the contact points of the 2 pc’s is the parts i don’t like.

What if it was a solid chunk of aluminum? No lower attach points?

Depending on the alloy id be all for it. But steel is so much easier for me to accept. We have a work truck that is identical to yours but a long bed. It hauls a flat bed for our parts/machines that we make. I had them buy this. Hauls 5,000-10,000lbs a few times a week when we are busy. Sometimes more

Its one of the ones i would buy.

That’s not bad! I’m not sure I’m a huge fan of the way it attaches either. Hard to get exactly what we all want right. Everything’s a compromise

Totally agree

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the scale in the WS. It the ONLY reason i keep using it.

Getting the perfect 10%-15% tongue weigh is piece of mind.

I did not like the slop in the WS in the receiver so i ran a bead of weld on the top and one side and grinded it down for a perfect fit

We totally just robbed the O.P.’s thread

Really sorry O.P. [emoji20] But i think you got some good info[emoji16]

Ha.........cut me some slack. I’m moving into a big boy truck from my F150. I appreciate the feedback and will step up to a big boy shank. Thanks!

Even with your "big boy" truck a WDH is still needed. Just because the truck does not squat, that doesn't mean the weight balance is correct.

For what it's worth, in your case, with the weight your hauling and the terrain you go over....I'd buy the appropriate 2.5" drop shank.

However...for going on 3 yrs I've been using the oem\Mopar supplied adapter for both my tt and utility trailer without issue.

I'm sticking with the 2" shanks for now because that's what i have and i bought a 2" shank when i bought this 2500.

I figured i don't need the capacity of the 2.5" for what I'm doing and should my truck break down on a camping trip, i know a whole lot more people with 2" receivers that could get my rig home for me.

There is nothing wrong with using the adapter if you don't tow much....if your using it heavy or towing frequently...yes buy a 2.5" shank....

Just my .02.

Hijack alert!!! As GSram, above same here ^^^
Got three different 2" drop setups hitches including an E2 fast-way WD, for my travel trailer, 2 others, for Boat, car hauler. All inserted into the factory Ram 2.5/2" insert. What I don't like is the Ram 2" insert, it's too loose. I have no problem other than it rattles and bangs when on uneven terrain. I would like a better fit insert, for the 2.5 2500 receiver.
Anybody try different brand that's tighter?

So the 2.5” shank is on the way. The real question is should I be concerned the factory receiver has become deformed? The adaptor won’t fit back in so I’m assuming the new shank won’t fit back in either? I took the adaptor to another 2500 and it slides in perfectly. So it’s absolutely the receiver with the problem. I will take the Dremel to it this weekend, but should I be concerned?

I would be concerned more if it was way loose, and the pin hole is elongated in the receiver. Removing a few burrs seem's OK

i still use the e2 setup from my 1/2 ton on my current 3/4 ton. everything is the same except i went to the 2.5" shank and a different drop because i didn't like the idea of having a sloppy spot in the hitch setup. my 2.5" shank is made by equalizer.
