Do you have faith in the shop that they're not just looking to make a few $?
And, when was your last inspection, mileage and time-wise?

I'm surprised the last 44k miles to be honest, have you seen them? My number one reason for buying a 2500 over a 1500, that solid front axle is built to last. Looks like you are leveled as well? If so did you upgrade UCA's?

Did they say rust anywhere? Did you ask for old parts?

I took my truck in for recalls when it had about 48k miles on it. When I came back to pick it up, the SA told me I needed an alignment, shows me this sheet:

I said, "If my alignment is that bad, how come I have 0 pull and my tire wear is nice and even?"

He stammered and said, "You're not the first person to say this. Maybe our machine is off."

Yeah, right. Maybe you just tried to screw me and got called on it. I think what got me the most is I never even asked them to check anything. This is why I am so untrusting of people.

P.S.

My truck has 199,800 miles on it, and I've never even had it aligned. (Knocks on wood.....lol)

I got 81,000 miles out of Cooper Discoverer A\T "E" rated tires I got from Walmart.

AFAIK, CTC mechanics are paid on commission. I'd get an estimate elsewhere before donating to their cause.

I used to use CTC many years ago, but only for specific items I had previously decided upon. Most people I knew back in those days would never trust CTC to diagnose anything because they always found extra necessary work.

Seems like way too early for wheel bearings, but parts can fail at any time, so you never know.

Let us know what the dealer finds.

so, it wasn't a dealer but a tire store??

many years ago i had a 1980 buick riviera. I brought it to a (well known) tire store to have them maybe put two front tires on. They lifted the car, then after a few minutes called me in. they guy shook the tire back and forth and told me the idler arms or tie rods were bad and it needed a complete alignment. told them i didn't have the money for all that and left.

i brought the car to a REAL alignment place and they told me everything was perfect and didn't need an alignment or tie rods.

lesson learned...only have a tire place replace tires only.

They might have "Tire" in their name, but they aren't really tire stores anymore. They're one hell'va big retail chain in Canada that carries everything from TV's to auto parts.A hundred years ago they were a tire store, now not so much, lol

Canadian Tire began in 1922 when brothers J.W. and A.J. Billes purchased the Hamilton Tire and Garage Ltd. in Toronto. They later incorporated the business as the Canadian Tire Corporation in 1927. The company started with a focus on selling tires, particularly during the summer months, and expanded its product line over time.

Here's a more detailed look at the company's origins:
  • 1922:
J.W. and A.J. Billes invest $1,800 in Hamilton Tire and Garage Ltd., a business that specialized in buying tires at discounted prices during the winter and reselling them during the busy summer season.

  • 1923:
The brothers move to Yonge and Gould Streets in Toronto and open their first retail store, no longer solely a car garage.

    • 1927:
The company is incorporated as Canadian Tire Corporation Limited.
    • 1928:
Canadian Tire begins distributing its first catalogues, including price lists and road maps.
    • 1934:
The first official Associate Store, owned and operated by Walker Anderson, is opened in Hamilton.
    • 1944:
Canadian Tire becomes a public company and sells 100,000 shares to fund its growth.

They were using those drive over spots to check alignment in the early 70's, LOL (Part of NJ State Inspection). Way outta date. Might work on a 66 Chevy, hee hee.

I'm not sure they even checked it or how, since I dropped it off early am and picked it up about 4 pm.

I never authorized them to do anything other than recalls, and they wonder why people don't trust them.

Somebody without basic knowledge would've paid for an alignment they didnt need.

Since my truck has a solid rear axle I'm not even sure what could be out of line except maybe the position of the axle on the frame, and I'd like to think you would have noticeable issues if that were the case.
