2018 5.7 Ram w/sport hood
CAI choices...
Vararam Ram air, says up to 30 hp gain
S&B CAI, says 3% to 6% of factory hp
Mopar CAI with sport hood vent ram air...what gains does the mopar combo make in hp and torque?

By itself, you aren't going to get the gains you posted. If you are running 3:21 gears, your best gains will come from a regear.

Elaborate on this re-heat ?

CAI by itself will never net you 30HP, lol. Those companies are always making these weird ass claims. You won't notice anything, but I think on a dyno, they are closer to like 3 - 5 HP. Even with raim air, which really only helps you above a certain speed for the most part.

Left out im running a factory 3.92 rear end, also would be doing an exhaust system and programmer later. Was just curious on real gains one type vs. another, i do realize companies embelish and some stats are based on high rpm curves.

If you do a full exhaust, CAI, and a proper tune, then yes, you can get into those 30HP numbers, but... a stretch in of itself.

Fixed it.

I guess if I were being a ****, i'd ask for elaboration. A regear isn't going to give him more HP, it's just going to give him the illusion of power. Much like a pedal commander will do. you can get the same effect for a fraction of the cost with a pedal commander.

I have the old style S&B, cut the scoop a few inches shorter & moved the coolant overflow tank over a little. I have ran several trucks that have the same mods(1 even had longtubes & I dont), same tuner(Jay Greene), same trucks(rc 8 speed/3.92), same day & my truck w/ the S&B & coolant overflow tank relocated is over a full tenth faster than them & their Vararam each time.

^^^^ In your instance, I would have to say a lot of that difference is because of who is BEHIND the steering wheel. You'll have to admit, you've been down the track a few more times than most. LOL

I have seen the Vararam put down 18hp/tq on an otherwise stock truck. That is while sitting still on a dyno. I've also tested it at the track on a 2012 crew cab who's only mod was an 85mm throttle body and picked up .4.

I do like the older style S&B, but not a fan of their new re design...and I have never seen gains from the Mopar intake to justify its cost.

This is why I will always run the Vararam on my own trucks.

Yea I have some but the site wont let me upload them. Keeps saying file too large.

This will only work if you want to remove the grille shutters(8 speed trucks).

-You pull the grille off
-Remove the grille shutters COMPLETELY
-Move/mount the motor for the shutters to behind the driver's side headlight and plug it back in
-Get your tuner to turn off the cel for the grille shutters OR get ahold of a guy on the Facebook Ram pages named Jason Dauria(he makes a piece of billet that allows you to delete the grille shutters w/o a tune that you attach to the motor to keep it w/in its operating limits)
-Unbolt your coolant overflow tank & move it to the driver's side more where the grille shutters used to be. There is a bolt hole already for the top bolt but you will have to drill/tap a new hole for the bottom bolt. Moving the overflow tank over allows for a straight pathway to pull air into the S&B.
-Cut the scoop on the S&B a few inches shorter to align w/ the new pathway that you opened up
-Put the grille back on & reinstall the plastic shroud over the grille. Take a razor knife or scissors & cut a new hole for the overflow tank cap

This worked out very well for me. I noticed a difference right away. Rain is not an issue. I live in south Louisiana where it rains around 70" a yr. No water gets in the box. Even if it did there is a drain hole in the box

I have the billet piece from Jason that eliminates the CEL for the grill shutters. Easiest mod ever and I haven't thrown a CEL yet. I noticed reduced operating temps immediately after removing the shutters too.
That S&B mod you are talking about sounds badass! The only think I don't like about my S&B is that the clear cover doesn't seal and those little rubber washers are already splitting. I have had the S&B on for almost a year now.

I had the new style S&B. Sold it and got the vararam. Haven’t looked back. Plus it looks cool when you pop the hood LOL
