I change mine about every 3,000 miles when my dash tells me to, I was looking in the owners manual and it says every 6,000 miles. If that's the case why does my truck tell me to change the oil at about 3,000 miles???

My manual says every 16,000kms which is nuts I think that's 10,000miles. I change it every 6-7,000kms.

I have no idea why your dash tells you that. But that is to soon to change these modern oil"s today. It doesn't hurt to change it that often it's just not necessary. I change my full synthetic around 8 to 9k.It usually shows on the evic, that I have about 15 to 20 % oil life left.

conventional oil = around 5k miles
synthetic oil = around 8-10k miles

Many will argue these numbers ( for or against ) but its a general rule of thumb.

I have 4000 miles on my 2015 truck and the evic said i had 55% to go, which i thought was a bit high and odd. That means i could go about 8500 miles on the origianl dino oil......i dont think so !!

I just put in mobil1 synthetic and will do my changes around the 25% left mark on my evic, that should be around 7500 miles per oil change. I drive about 10-12k miles a year.

I don't have an oil percentage deal (if I do I don't know where it is). I just get a message that says oil change due or something like that.

I was doing it at 3000, then changed to 5000
I buy the oil change packages at dealer, 4 oil changes for 70 bucks and get a tire rotation

Every 18 mos., or 82 miles - whichever comes first! :roflsquared:

Mine's a weekend toy, STILL getting restored, although more road/offroad ready since last November. I'll be hard-pressed to drive it 3,000 miles a year, so maybe just annually.

The oil life monitor in 4th Gens is based on the manufacturer's recommended oil,,, (Dino API SN GL-5,,,,)

It's also based on completely OEM vehicles driven on-road.

I know exactly where I stand in that equation.

Y'all will have to find your own happy place,,,

Your OM actually says a maximum of 6k,,, Just like mine says a maximum of 10k

OLM is triggered by different algorithms based on rpm, speed, etc etc etc.

I like this answer I'll stick with this and just change it when it tells me to.

My dealer I use offers 3 for $75 but you have to use them within 14 months. Not too big of a deal. Change it when you buy the package then every 7 months or so.

"Under no circumstances should oil change intervals exceed 10,000 miles (16,000 km) or twelve months on 1500 trucks, whichever comes first."

I change my oil, air filter, rotate and balance tires every 3,000 miles.

Unless that's a year of driving that is throwing money away. Air filters are typically good for 10k miles and 5k is a tire rotation interval.

Depends on my oil, Filter gets changed every 5K oil sample gets sent off for analysis every 5k. if there is excessive contaminates it gets changed. but I'll run it alot farther than 5k-10k just all depends on the recommendations I get from my oil guy. Which reminds me I need to go get some oil and change out the dealership oil from the cam and lifter repair.

i agree 16,000km is too much and surprisingly even my dealer is recommending it. i've been going every 10,000km which is something like 6200 miles. so far oil has still been very clean so sticking to it for now but once my free changes are gone i plan to change to synthetic and could probably stretch it out a bit longer

I ran the FF to ~7500 MI and OLM at 25% when I changed mine yesterday. I refilled the sump with PYB 5w-20.
