I was reading in the manual today and it advised to change the differential fluids every 20k if towing, etc.

I found this to be odd and thought I would ask. On my old truck I changed the differential fluids every 75k, do we need to service the power wagons more since it has the locking differentials?

Probably a good ideas as the lockers have a magnetic actuation and it does pickup a lot of fine metal particles hampering their function

I’ve always followed the severe duty maintenance schedules with previous trucks and plan to do the same with my 2020 2500 4x4. I may pay a little more in time and materials, but I’ve never had any catastrophic failures or denied warranty claims.

Many have proven, myself included that initial dump of the rear axle fluid should be done after the initial 1500-2000 miles of driving. The gears wear/set in during this time frame and contamination from the metal wear material is the worst during the initial break in. My oil was nasty when I drained it and the locker magnet had a bunch of metal sludge on it. After the initial dump every 30,000 miles under normal conditions is more than adequate. If you tow heavy and often, or submerge your axles and contaminate the oil a more frequent schedule should be followed.

The front axle isn't isn't as critical early on because unless your in 4wd often there's no load on the ring and pinion to wear/set the gears. Do the front around 15,000-20,000 for the initial unless your in 4wd often or submerge axles in water and contaminate the oil.
