2019 Longhorn 5.7L, recently purchased. I'm pretty much ready to pull the trigger and buy some tuning software, and install an unlocked PCM. I've kinda settled on HPTuners and I went to place an order for a bunch of stuff.... and guess what .... these is NO PHONE NUMBER available for any contact with them. To place an order, I had to fill out a 'Support Ticket' and wait for someone to call me back IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS.

I gotta be honest, this scares the heck out of me. I've NEVER seen a major company with no sales or tech support available by phone... NEVER.

How many folks here using HPTuners? Is this phone contact a big deal, or am I making too much out of it? I can completely understand why they would want to make it difficult for folks to get in touch, otherwise they'd be answering tuning calls 24/7/365....... but still, for sales, you'd think you could call and spend your money............ jeesh

HPTuners has been around forever. I wouldn't be concerned. It could be that since they are a major manufacturer, they tend to have people go through distributors to purchase their products. If you purchase direct from them, all of their documentation is online. It looks like the only contact is for troubleshooting, etc... and since they need information for that filling out a ticket seems pretty standard versus going back and forth over the phone. They kind of hint towards that on their website.

Ahhhh, thanks for that. I didn't even think about buying everything through a distributor.

I had contacted them with a 'support ticket' last week, and asked what I would need to tune my truck. The tech guy responded with this:
"After reviewing the information you have provided I recommend you purchase an MPVI3 Device, VCM Suite Software (Beta), 2 credits, a Dodge PCM upgrade service, and a Dodge 2018+ Smart Access cable."

So I thought about it overnight, then proceeded to call and order all the stuff. Wrong! Can you (or anyone) recommend a good distributor to buy HPTuners from?

Thanks

You need "6" credits if you want to tune the engine and transmission, tuning the transmission is well worth the extra credits.FRP is a good place to buy from, but right at this moment Ryans not taking on any new customers,as his wife is supposed to have their baby today, and i'm guessing that'll shut him down for probably a month or so on taking on new tune customers,so you might want to look up another tuner.
You can check with any of these guys, they're all good tuners, and most will set you up with everything you need to tune it.
Pick the one that's closest to you,and who you like, remote tuning is good, but if you can get the truck into your tuners hands,it's better

@Wild one , thanks for all the contacts! I'm gonna do everything remotely, and try to do most of the tuning myself. Nothing crazy, just some gentle tweaks, primarily to make it a better-feeling daily driver. I'm not racing this truck, nor do I need to be doing long burnouts (I've got a 700hp Roush Mustang for those, haha).

If you had to pick one or two out of that list, who would you choose for the 5.7L Hemi? I would mainly want to buy all the items (in Post #3) from them, and 'maybe' get a little help tuning at some point.

Thanks again! Dave F.

Hunt up their phone numbers and talk to a few of them, then pick the one you like the best. All are very respectable tuners,so i'm not gonna reconmend one over the other,as nobody has delt with all of them

I would stay far away from Dynomite Performance. They are crooks in my opinion. Hired them for a job and they entirely mislead their capabilities (which I have email proof saying they can do). Ultimately had it sent to someone else. Worst experience I've ever had. Was nice to talk to on the phone, said all the right things... but absolute garbage.

LOL, funny that you mention that. I've had a couple of guys pestering me on HPTuners Forum, trying to sell their tuning services...... no thanks.

The beauty of my situation is that I already have a stellar base tune - the factory tune - it runs great. I just want to make a few careful tweaks.

Yeah, thanks for the names. But the thing is, I don't need a full tune at all, just simple tweaks. Plus I'd prefer to get familiar with the tuning program with a little hands-on experience.

And if I blow something up, I'm gonna be ordering one of those 6.4L's you showed me in the other threads, haha! At that point, I would hire a pro tuner....

dodge_boy and lil_sick I'd assume... they advertise a lot haha.

It's hard to mess anything up too bad in a modern vehicle. I've played around with the engine and tranny and it's not bad once you get your feet wet

It wouldn't hurt to buy a couple of their online tuning classes either,if you want to learn the ins and outs of their tuning platform. Cheaper to buy a couple classes then an engine or transmission, lol

Just to keep in mind, you can't buy an "unlocked" PCM from someone else (used) for your truck and expect it to work, there are some background security bits that need to match or your truck won't start. 2017 and older this was possible, but not since 2018. Wanted to make you aware just so you weren't mislead by someone trying to sell one of theirs...

I do have a way to make a used PCM work, but it also requires the BCM, RF hub, and keys... which at that point unless you are trying for some custom build it's not worth it.

I would just suggest sending in your current PCM for an unlock.

Haha, yeah man, I may be a novice tuner, but I suspected as much. Which is why I'm buying a brand new Dodge PCM directly from HPTuners. I just ordered it last night, sent them all data from my current PCM along with the order. They will configure the new PCM and send it to me. $722 with shipping..... Thanks
