First Hurricane 2025 in a pickup truck
That weighs the same as the other vehicles it’s in…
towing medium or heavy payload, first 3 years didn't count they were in grocery getters
What do you think the majority of Ram 1500 owners are using their trucks for? Mostly grocery getters just like the wagoneer.
remember FIAT designed this engine,
No, they did not.
all or most of the engineers got laid off, customer support is in India, Pakistan for cheaper labor.
Nothing to do with the engine design, or support for it.

Thanks for posting this YouTube video. I think it has cured my itch for a new Ram, given the serious issues it has.
Tell us abut the serious issues you have experienced with the hurricane engine and not you tube vids.I am all ears.

For what it is worth, I came across this University of Utube video about the Hurricane engine.

Melting cats is another sign that these motors are having an issue heat shedding. Remember the HO is rated *lower* in tow capacity than the SO and heat shedding is almost certainly the culprit. The motor gets hot and has to pull timing and dump more fuel to cool itself while maintaining power, more fuel burned but later in the combustion cycle creates more heat and that spirals. That heat is largely going to be evacuated in the exhaust gasses. In fairness, even the vaunted LS motors can melt OEM cats if you overdo the forced induction without other mods, but those motors were designed as NA. These were designed for forced induction out of the gate and the extreme temps should not be a surprise to Stellantis. *Watching further in the video, it seems he came to the same conclusion*

Yeah, rentals are going to potentially see harder use, but if a motor can't last 6 months in a rental is it going to hold up for 5 years in "normal" operation, whatever that means to you? Honestly that's why I miss having access to fleet data. It's a solid indicator of what's going to hold up long term with reasonable maintenance intervals.

I get *why* they made these Hurricanes so powerful but from a longevity standpoint I think if they backed them off closer to the outgoing hemi numbers you'd see better durability and longevity.

I call the video BS!! He clearly states rental cars not TRUCKS!! But these motors have been out for years and in the other vehicles so why all of the sudden are the converters melting? Why now? And they must not have had many if he finally got to do one!!!? That clearly states to me that they are not piled up outside waiting in line to get the converter changed?! I have a friend or acquaintance at a dealer and I have not heard him say one anything about melted converters.
Anyone can find a video out there these days to fit any narrative they want to hear!

What CAR has the Hurricane in it? (hint: none, until the Charger sixpack launches) He probably just means car as short hand for vehicle.

Wagoneer forums have reports of replaced cats as well since at least 2023, it's not new. See: https://www.wagoneerfans.com/threads/check-engine-light.788/page-3 for several people complaining about the exact issue. How widespread it is, no idea given how few of these vehicles are out there.

Geez!!! Excuse the hell out of me,,,, vehicle!! The POINT is Rental which probably does not mean truck!!! This is a forum about trucks last time I was aware of. Trucks are usually not something that is rented as far as numbers versus OTHER VEHICLES!!!! Another point of fact is there just is not that many! Again this motor has been out for 3 plus years now!! And yet again more forum BS!!
Y'all can have it I'm out!!!! If you do not like the motor make dam sure you DO NOT GET ONE!!!!
Fricken Hilarious!!! Just a bunch of childless BS " my vehicle is better than yours!!!" Can not be that bad there is no recall!!! Later!

This is not a time bomb I would want in my truck. Rock Auto doesn’t have this type of replacement thermostat for any model of vehicle with the 3.0 engine. Nor can you buy a replacement cat from them.

I have not seen this engine in person so I can’t comment on how easy it would be to retrofit a conventional thermostat. Parts unobtanium is not a gamble for me. IMG_4079.jpeg

I wouldn't class it as unusual to not be able to buy aftermarket parts in the 1st few years of a new model while the replacement of those components especially emissions related like a cat will be covered under warranty.......

Wow, you’re right even Rock Auto doesn’t have hardly any parts available except for a few filters and what not.

At least for me, I've not said my vehicle is better (though it is for me, I have no use for a current production half ton from Ram at all regardless of motor) and have said I hope the Hurricane does well. However, facts matter. The fact is there is no CAR with a Hurricane so you were wrong in your assumption. Same as your assumption a recall would be automatic or acknowledged by a manufacturer. Admitting fault for a non-safety related recall is far from a given, and less so with the financial restraints Stellantis is currently dealing with. Cheaper to warranty and hope.

If I had to guess, I'd say most of the rentals are Wagoneers. That said, of course you can rent a truck, I've done it from LAX to go to the Mojave. Then think of fleet rentals instead of just individual rentals, which is a huge market.

You are entitled to your own opinion but you are not entitled to your own facts, being corrected on those and lashing out is the childish bs.

If these stick around, maybe the aftermarket will address those. Hi-flo cats are a pretty common thing for aftermarket support anyway.

I’m sure they will. One could always gut the stock thermostat and plumb a regular one in inline with a bleeder line.

This summer will be the first year with people who actually tow, putting this engine through its paces in real world mountains and heat with trailers realistically too big. We’ll see how they do outside of the soccer mom Wagoneer world.
