I agree with others. Probably just mud behind mirrors and it's leaching out. Pull the mirrors and cleaning behind will probably fix it up.

Thank you for the reponses, son bought the truck when he was stationed up in Fair Banks AK
so a resounding yes to salt, mud,blood and beer,lol.
the PO owned property in Fair Banks and a place in Idaho.pulled a 5th wheel, truck is rigged to the max.
is it difficult to dissasemble mirrors to clean? also to me it looks like the metal for a lack of a better word in between
where it pivots/swings looks like oxidation..? hence the white stain.

Hi, I'm from upstate NY home of rock salt, salt brine W/Magchloride we have pickled toads here as well, the only way to get that salt brine is to remove the mirrors, you just pop the triangle black plastic plate with a trim tool and I believe 2 nuts and the mirror is out just disconnect the connector, I use Adams Detail Spray to clean it out

update on melting mirrors

finally got the time to look into mirror issue.upon taking mirror off I found a salt mine, the thing was literally packed with the stuff. cleaned what I could, but the cast metal that is the mirror frame is pitted horribly ,
might have to check junk yards in the future for a replacement set.
